Autodesk does not like writing drivers for video cards, etc., and heavily
leverages the ADI program where we provide a developers kit for the card
manufacturers to write their own drivers. This worked pretty well for AutoCAD,
but we found was not as successful for 3D Studio support. Now, the folks at
Vibrant are commissioned by Autodesk or by card manufacturers to write 3D
Studio drivers – it costs money to get them to write a driver.
Usually the driver is requested/paid for by Autodesk in response to customer
wishlist requests. I do not know which drivers Vibrant is planning on
supporting; I just forward the wishlist to Autodesk folks who keep tabs on
these things and then make the budget available for the driver.
