#Animator Sudio / Win95
16 messages in this thread
On my last trip to US I purchased Animator Studio (I guess
the newest version / March 1995).
But after installing on my Pentium90 with Win95 Preview, all
Programs but the Animator Studio itself are runnung well.
When I start AniStudio the Animator Studio Bitmap comes up,
then System hangs. After ending the task via the TaskMgr
an error message ocurrs which tells me that the OLE2.0
Version is not the rigth one.
What can I do get the AniStudio running!!! Please help.

Hi Dietmar,
<< What can I do get the AniStudio running!!! Please help. >>
I'm not involved with Animator Studio at all. Maybe Nik G. or Dave E. will help
you out. One thing that you can do, is to set your date back about 3 weeks and
review all of the threads found in the Animator Studio section of the message
base of this forum.

Animator Studio does not yet support Win95. There are plans to update the
registered customers for free to a Win95 compatible AAStudio version that
will be released on the heals of Win95 release.
At this point I hope that you can hang in there until our Win95 compatible
release. Let us know if we can be of further help.

Well,
I didn't suspect that AAS s u p p o r t s W95, all I suspected was that It
will as a W3.x-App run under W95 like
almost others do. This is the first and only one app on my system which makes
problems under w95.
So I'll wait'n'see.
Thanks for the reply….Dietmar

I have asked the programmers the same question. Apparently, AAStudio uses
resources (like Video for Windows) that runs into problems on Win95. If this
were a simpler program, we wouldn't use as many resources and we'd run into
less problems.
I'm sorry I don't have the full picture of this, but that is the flavour of the
programmer's response.
So could you again ask the programmers, if there will be a
solution for WIN95-Users when Win95 is available (not Beta),
I guess this will be end of August (US)/beginning of September (Europe)?

Sure – I'll ask.

Dietmar, AAS was not written for Win95. Did Win95 exist at the time? 😉 some
folks have managed to get AAS "running" under build 490 by changing the icon
properties from FLASH.EXE to ANIMATOR.EXE, and there is an r1c1 patch out now
which corrects things like memory-leak bugs and adds things like relative
macros.
There will be a dedicated-NT and Win95 version coming out here very shortly.

Well,
but AAS is the (my) only W3.x-App that makes problems with W95!!
All other Apps on my Sytem do quite well with W95, and believe me there are
lots of them!
So, perhaps the only thing I can do is just wait'n'see. Thats not so much!
Thanks for your answer.

Dietmar,
The AAStudio Acting Product Manager saw your question. He asked if I could
post his reply for you. Here it is:
"Windows95 Preview is a beta operating system and you are a
beta tester for Windows95, Herr Freigang.
Many programs that work under Win3x work under this new
system as well, such as 3D Studio which runs as a full
screen DOS application.
However, because Animator Studio is a Video for Windows
application and because Windows95 has numerous changes to
the video subsystem, there are not compatible. Animator
Studio Version 1.1 will address this incompatibility.

Thank you very much,
so I'll wait for the 1.1. I guess the update will be free??

" I'll wait for the 1.1. I guess the update will be free??"
Yes, I'm told. Thanks for hanging in there.
We are waiting for the update, as well. Virtually our whole graphics
department is Autodesk, and all works well except Animator Studio. Funny error
message, though, "FLIPPER cause General Protectio Error…" Lots o' Dolphin
jokes you can guess…
Kyle
" Lots o' Dolphin jokes" from the Flipper errors. Sounds like we have the
makings of a FLIPPER.TXT file for folks, to "ease" their experience of Flipper
errors.
However, I believe we're on track for getting the stability we're looking for –
a task that seemed overwhelming to me when I considered all the possible
versions of shared files that AAStudio could encounter, installed by other
Video for Windows applications. Seems like QA is getting real world feedback
that things are looking good. Yay!

When will you be able to ship the win95 update to Animator Studio ?
Dave
Not only do I always pick the slowest line, I also seem to have a thing for
timing. I purchased both the Animator Studio and Win '95 today.
When I got the "Flipper", I jumped on to the forum for a clue. Now that I know
it's not me or my PC, I'm wondering – will a patch be availble here or will
they be sent out to those that have already sent in their registration cards?
I'm about to install the Animator in Windows 3.1 (I did make a working backup
there) and as soon as that's done – my card is in the smail!
Thanks!
