#MeshPaint 3D

Anyone have much experience with MeshPaint 3D? I hear it's an
excellent paint program for 3DS, but kind of buggy. Does anyone know
if Positron is working on this or has already solved some of the
problems?

I havnt found it buggy. The main problem or limitation is not so much
the program but the constraints of 3ds mapping methods. Lofted maps
are the best; planer cyl and sphere all have problems. Mesh paint
cannot see more than one set of map coordinates at a time, if it
could ( this is a wish of mine ) then it would be easier to use. I
find it difficult to paint on meshes with the same control as on flat
surfaces so I clean maps up in Painter. Even with the limitations
this program is SO much easier than the next best way of being
accurate with maps( which is David Stinnet's grid method) that its a
MAJOR time saver. Im hoping that R5 will have improvements in the
mapping coordinates to put it closer to the sgi based apps in
functionality which will improve the functioning of meshpaint. Ed
Thanks for some good information. I think I'm sold.

I just completed a review for 3D Artist where I indicated that Meshpaint is a
"must have" ipas. It's hard to over-emphasize the ease with which it's now
possible to paint elaborate maps directly on objects, however complex. I should
add that you can also load a brush with an image (a "stamper") and paint with
that. Marvelous piece of work, expecially for a version 1.0
It is also one of the least buggy plug-ins I've seen. Haven't found a bug yet –
and the only other IPAS I can say that about is Pennello.

Robert,
Thank you very much for your reply. That was what I was waiting to hear, I'm
sold.
Thanks, Terry
Thanks for the kind words. The new PolyMap feature in version 1.1
should make the program even better for later touch-up in Painter.

Hey, are you going to send out notices to all your registered users? I always
need an excuse for spending [upgrade] money.
Mike,
We will do a mailing when we return from Siggraph. The upgrade price is $25.00
and we can fax you a sheet detailing the new features. If you have yet to send
in your registartion card, just call us.

I think we've been through this before but… I should be on your database
already. In any case, you don't have to sell me, I want the upgrade as soon as
it's available. Just drop us a line here when it's available and I'll give you
guys a call.
Hi,
Could you please send me some information about your product?
Thanks

Will,
We will send a sample disk and literature when we return from Siggraph next
week. In the meantime, if you want, you can download a demo version of
MeshPaint 3D, along with sample images in the Positron forum.
Just type Go Positron, and look in the library.
