FLC's to AVI's HELP!!!

HELP with flc's to avi's! using R4 with Premiere 4. i create the animation with
a medium pallete 320×240 no 256 dither 16-bit i get small file sizes and good
enough color, they play great in authoring packages, but when sound is added
and made to avi it gets choppy. i've tried all the different compressions. Do i
have to render the animations a bit differently? Digital Video avi's play great
and always have. Maybe Premiere treats the flcs in a different way when
compressing? Even when i set the data rate very low, i still get that choppy
look? HELP! my digitial video even plays great off the cd, but those certain
avis that were flc's still play choppy. What to do?????

Many people think that the FLC to AVI conversion built into Premier or video
for Windows does not work as well as doing the process manually. What appears
to give better results is to render to individual TGA files out of 3D Studio,
and then import the TGA files into Premier or use one of the TGA to AVI
utilities to generate the AVI file.

I would visit the Graphics Support forum (GO GRAPHSUPP) and look for conversion
programs. Search on the keywords CONVERT, AVI and TGA.

Brian I am making avi files from both AniPro and AniStudio every day. Both 8
bit and 24 bit. I make sure there is NO compression until after I have done all
the sound stuff, then after all the elements are together do a make movie.
these play off a CD quite well. I would look at how the sound is being
produced. What sampling rate. Also what data rate is the avi file. Jan Ozer's
book on video compression is very helpful also.

do you think that maybe all of the different elements on the tracks(in
premiere) , having different compression, could be causing my problems
converting flc's to avi's? it makes sense.i will try it out. do you recommend
animator studio for making avi's? i've heard good and bad, so i figured i would
wait a while.
I use VidEdit a lot. Compression "NONE", then if I want to twiddle the .AVI
files in Premiere or whatever I can add the compression when done. Keep them
uncompressed as long as possible.

them all into Premiere. i still have the problem. i compress last, with MPEG
and it's still choppy. most of the flcs are 420X340 and play GREAT from the
media player. So what gives? i'm 100mhz with 16meg. Any ideas?

James, We are using something called DOCEO compressor. I don't know where it
came from. Someone at work bought it somewhere. It works quite well allthough
it is a little bit raw to work with. Playback is acceptable. We are playing
back with our own proprietary player engine however so that might make a
difference. We experimented a lot using Jan Ozer's book as a starting point and
that helped a lot. Sorry I can't be of more assistance.
