Has anyone had experience getting a ProE or ProE Jr. file into 3d studio?? I tried bringing an IGES file into Acad thinking I could get it into 3ds from there, but got alot of "can't deal with Entity type 144" messages. Are there tricks or 3ird party programs that can help??

scott… are you using the default "IGESIN" command in acad?… i don't think that this works very well with importing surfaces (entity 144 is a type of surface definition)… autodesk sells a more "robust" iges translator that should do much better… but i believe it runs about $1000-$1200… … joe

I have also seen and gotten information from Schreiber on a product I believe is called "ProStudio" that is supposed to be made for just what you're tryig to do. I got them to fax me a blurb (price was not mentioned, but I heard elsewhere it ran for around $395). I'm real leery of purchasing the Autodesk version of the IGES xlator on the premise that it MIGHT work and would rather buy something specifically made to do the job. For more info, fax Scot at Schreiber at 303-759-0928

Scott, <<Has anyone had experience getting a ProE or ProE Jr. file into 3d studio??>> Do it all the time. But I must add in a pretty round about fashion. I Iges out from Pro-E. Iges in to Autosurf. Iges back out. Iges into Autocad and back out in dxf form to 3ds. (simple eh?) It actually works quite nice if you set it up right. Regards, Peter Kroko

Peter (and Scott), There is a stand-alone converter available from Frank Zuccaro at Aero Data (cis address 74036,3317) that will convert ANY ascii STL file into a 3DS ASCII file. Frank has had success translating from SDRC, CADDS, Pro/E, CATIA, etc. I have personally used it from Pro/E and it worked flawlessly. We actually had a working model on the screen in less than 15 minutes. Please note that this program is stand-alone, and as such requires no other software. Give Frank a shout, Chuck Mies Computer Services

Chuck, <<There is a stand-alone converter available from Frank Zuccaro at Aero Data (cis address 74036,3317) that will convert ANY ascii STL file into a 3DS ASCII file.>> Thanks for the tip! I'm actually not sure if I have the stl "module: or not. Regards, Peter Kroko

Peter, The important thing to remember is that it will work with virtually _any_ STL files, thereby affording a greater opportunity to cost justify itself! Chuck

<<There is a stand-alone converter available from Frank Zuccaro at Aero Data (cis address 74036,3317) that will convert ANY ascii STL file into a 3DS ASCII file.>> Somehow my CIS address indicated above is incorrect. Use 74036,3117 Thanks
