I'm trying to export a model from AutoCAD r13 using "3dsout". When you bring the model into 3D Studio the arcs are not smooth. Can someone HELP?

Try adjusting the DXF-ARC-DEGREES parameter in your 3DS.SET file. Dave

The model exports from AutoCAD as a 3ds file. I tried the DXF-ARC-DEGREES parameter. Did not work. Any other ideas?

Ahh. I didn't understand that you weren't coming from a DXF file. I believe the answer is the AutoCAD r13 FACETRES variable. Dave

I wish I could say that increasing the "FACETRES" value worked, but it didn't. I raised the value up to 10 and 3dsout the file. When I bring the model in 3D Studio the arcs look like they have been created with SHAPE STEPS set to 3. Any other ideas? Jack

Can you let us take a look at (or can you describe what you created) so we can try it here? A FACETRES value of 10 will generate 32 segments per 90 degree arc. A value of 3 would give you 4 segments – should be a lot of difference!

Many Thanks for all the help! Jack

Jack, Using the 3DSOUT command from AutoCAD, you need to adjust the FACETRES variable before exporting the file. That will generate smoother curves. -brian
