Is my face red? I seem to have spec'd a very nice display card that's not able
to display 24 bit resolution under 3D Studio control!
I refer to the Diamond Stealth 64 Video 3200 (VRAM).
The Vibrant 3D Studio driver doesn't seem to support the Stealth 64 Video
3200. There is generic VESA, but anything beyond 16bit depth does not
work. In fact, setting up for 24bit display causes a protected mode
violation.
I've also tried using the (old?) Stealth 64 driver, but it reports the S3 is
not
responding. There is also a driver called Stealth 64 VRAM, but there is no
24bit mode listed for it.
Any help or suggestions out there?

Vibrant has written a fix for using AutoCAD with the "Stealth 64 Video" video
card. The fix also works with 3D Studio (at least for me). To get the fix, go
on the Vibrant BBS 512-918-3411 and download the file stlbios.exe. The fix
needs to be run from your autoexec.bat It worked for me!
This file will not work for anyone having problems with the older S3-964 based
"Stealth 64". It only works with the newer S3-968 based "Stealth 64 Video"

Thanks, Mark. I foolishly left that message before browsing for other folks
with the same complaint. I got the fix almost immediately afterward. Now, if
you could just tell me how to force that BIOS into the space formerly occupied
by the BIOS that loads from the adapter ROM on bootup. That would save me
about 33K of precious high mem, I could put to better use.

Vibrant knows of the problems, and is working on a fix. In addition, they have
a few files on their BBS which fix most of the cards.

Thanks, Greg. I got the fix. I just wish I could jam it into the space the
board BIOS loads into. I could use the extra 33K of high mem.
