!!Congratulations for 3D Studio MAX!!
My best wishes that this release will scare all the competitors (It already
scared me by the new way of doing animations.
Now YG is really talking TEK <g>

Heck, you oughta see the thing. It look quite different, but it is very cool. I
have been pondering what they were going to do with it for 6-7 months now, and
I personally not disapointed by what I saw today. The Biped plug in is
incredible, and the skinemation sounds very cool too, but there was no sign of
it at the show, so I assume it isn't done enough to show. I am very excited
about it.
You're right! It looks incredible, and just think of the possibilities of the
architecture. Maybe just replace Videopost by a mix of Premiere with Animator
Studio, or all the possibilities of having direct access to the rendering
pipeline. I think that I have to relearn to program after 15 years, and jump
into C++ (or maybe Pascal or Basic?). The coming months will be pure
brainstorming for all of us.
Hi Tim,

Did you see the AVI's of the monkey dancing? It was skinned with Skinemation.

Jonas,
I have read the reports about 3DSMAX. When will we know if and when the DEC
Alpha will be supported? We have put off hardware purchase for 2 months
waiting for Siggraph, and I see that now it only says that announcements about
risc chips will follow later. Do you know when this will be?
I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

I don't know when we'll announce, but your request sounds like a wishlist for
DEC Alpha support to me. I'll pass it on. 1 Vote for DEC Alpha.
Nik,
Thanks for your reply.

Hi Brendan,
<< Do you know when this will be? >>
I'm sorry but I don't.

I specifically asked this to an Autodesk Employee at Siggraph. They said that
there are negociations pending between Autodesk and DEC. Until the negociations
are final, nothing can be announced, because nothing is definite. I was told
they are "obviously looking at the DEC" systems. But again until an
announcement is made, nothing exists. And even then, sometimes things change.
So, we will need to continue to be patient. I too figured this would be
settled by Siggraph. I have been considering a DEC purchase and figured I
could possibly make a decision after Siggraph.

Dennis,
Thanks for your reply. It's a bit frustrating isn't it? The Alpha would
appear to be a great platform for 3dsmax, so I thought it would be a given that
it would be supported from day one. Anyway, we have to purchase now, so I
guess it will be Intel.

One consolation is that Intel will be cheaper. Even with Dual Pentiums. From
what I heard, the second CPU will add about 60% increase in speed. So if you
can wait to get the 150Mhz CPU's you will be talking about approximately 240Mhz
equivalent speed with an Intel. If you need it now, it would be approximately
212Mhz equivalent speed with the 133Mhz CPU's.
Someone correct me if I misunderstood any of this!
Dennis
Good point.

Not too mention that Integraph has there new TD series out now, one with 6
pentiums on board …lets see, 6 x 150MHz is……well….really fast I would
imagine.

I briefly saw the Intergraph booth at Siggraph, but didn't stop to check it
out. Will their system work with 3DS MAX now, or is it also like the DEC Alpha
that needs special coding?
Thanks,
Dennis
The Integraph TD's will run Windows NT for Intel. I have been looking at the
TDZ's, they are expensive but are supposed to have great 3D Open GL hardware
acceleration although the Dec Alpha processor is faster.

Saw it Tuesday at the show. Love the redesigned interface. The tree structure
for object manipulation is a bold concept. Was flying on a pedestrian (when
compared to the Raptor systems at the show) dual 120 Mhz pentium w/64 Mb RAM.
The software is pre-beta at this time. Between all of us at this office, we saw
a total of 6 demos, and only observed one crash! C – O – O – L
