What is the media that you would recommend that we get to send flics to post
production houses? (The 'old' standard being an 8mm Exabyte tape with Abacus
software…). Is there a standard, now? Or, is everyone using PARs?

The 'old' standard you refer to is still current today. Both the Accom and
Abekas Digital Disk Recorders (DDRs) have built-in support for Exabyte tapes,
and the easiest (cheapest!) method of outputting to them is through one of
those with the ASDG Abekas Drivers.
We have read in many thousands of files from that program directly to our Accom
unit, works great!

Oops. Thanks for the info (and correction) on Abekas. The people always
pronounce it abacus instead of abeekus! What do I know, I've never seen one up
close! <grin>.
Are 4mm DATs supported? Do post production houses have these tape drives? The
8mm's are 'old models' and we are buying a tape backup for our new network. I
would like to be able to use the same tape for transferring animations, if we
ever have cause to send them out.

Not on the Accom or Abekas.

Some do, some don't. We do. But remember, since they are not directly
supported on the DDRs, there will be a higher fee to transfer images.

First I've heard of this! Has anyone mentioned this to Exabyte yet? <bg> The
8mm units are standard in the workstation market, they are still going strong!
Speed and amount of data stored on the tapes make them wonderful units for
backup.

Why not just get an 8mm tape unit?
