I'm having a problem with Animator Studio and my #9 card (I think). I have so
far contacted both #9 and Autodesk and have yet to get anyone to help me.
In the manual (if I'm correct) it states that AS is a 24 bit paint program
capable of editing 24 bit stills. When I try to import a BMP or JPEG or any
other format, make changes in AS (ie airbrushing) and try to save as JPEG/BMP,
etc. I get the following warning:
"This file format cannot save all of the data in this movie. Consider saving
this movie as an AVI file. The following data will not be saved: selection
change. …
OK or CANCEL"
I choose OK and it saves the image to the original format, but when I open the
picture to use it, it is blurred and cannot be used.
I've also acknowledged and tried to save as AVI (even when I need a BMP or JPEG
still) but it still blurs. The still images were generated in 3DS.
Autodesk help line told me that they cannot duplicate this problem and they
believe it has to do with my #9 card. They also said no one else is having
this problem.
#9 says to install the new drivers and that this is a bug in the software, not
the #9 card. I installed the new drivers but it didn't help.
Unfortunately I have AS and cannot use it at all. I'd appreciate any help you
can provide.

go to settings/compression and use Autodesk 24-bit compression… this is a
lossless CODEC. see if that cures it. if not, i'll forward this to the tech
people who may have other solutions.

we're not getting blurs on many many other cards. the fingerpointing begins
again. <g> let me know if any different AVI CODECs resolve the problem, John.
also, some Adesk techs are looking into it… they are suspecting the stability
of you graphics driver, but will find out.

Thank you for responding so quickly to my letter.
You were right about one thing, by using the 24 bit compression I was able to
save the pictures as AVI with no distortion. Unfortunately, I need my images
saved as JPEG, BMP, PCX or similar still format.
I talked to #9 again and they haven't heard of any problems with their card but
they've taken note and will continue to look into it.
Also, I registered for the update and haven't heard anything. Any news?

have you tried saving out to a series of images using these and other still
image formats (like TGA) AAS is capable of? (can't remember if we've been
through this already) <g> there are several things we can still try… let me
know the results you get from exporting to a series of stills. 🙂

the c1 shipping was set back for a few reasons, for a while, but AAS updates
are on top priority list now, and theoretically being sent out to all
registered users. it takes a few weeks to process and and ship… it's the
entire revised program, not a portion of code.
