Hi all,
I got a new problem for you all. Is there a way to have a face reflect a
different color of the spectrum depending on it's angle to the light? Let's
say all faces at 45deg are blue, all faces at 30 red, with variations between
the two ranges of degrees and colors, and as the object is animated the faces
change accordingly. Is it possible….scripting maybe?
Let me know if anyone has any suggestions,

The Script Extension (TSE) package comes with a script the changes the color of
an object based on its position relative to some other objects. The same
general idea could be implemented with TSE to do what you want.

While not specifically relative to a light source, you can easily change the
face colors relative to the environment. I did this in about 3 minutes using a
radial spectrum gradient (using the KPT gradient designer IPAS). Getting the
right colors is a matter of creating an apppropriate gradient.
– Create or load a spectrum gradient (I used the Cosmic Spectrum
supplied with KPT). Set circluar sunburst, pinch left. Save the
.GRD file and apply it as a reflection map, 100%; set specular=white.
– Create objects with flat shading and apply the reflective
material. As they are rotated, each face "reflects" a different
portion of the reflection map based on its angle to the
environment.
– To change the specific colors reflected for specific angles, you
can adjust the gradient bitmap, or,
– To fine tune the effect (or adjust the angle relative to a
"light", if I understand what you want), simply link the
everything, including camera and target, to a dummy and rotate the
dummy. This in effect rotates the reflection map relative to the
environment.
For more precise control if you don't have too many faces to deal with, you
might be able to use mirror reflections with an appropriate spectrum applied to
an object off-camera.
