#LW4 -final

Chuck- any news yet on the final release shipping dates?
not trying to heckle, but it seems to have been a "couple of weeks away" for
some time;^)
(& i could really do with those file converters!!)

ps have you guys seen the demos for 3DS MAX? – its going to be an interesting
year!!
Yes, it would be nice to hear the words "it's shipping now". I've been waiting
for "two weeks" since may for a project-and I've almost run out of hope for
ever getting the final. I need the converters and the network rendering
capabilites for NT. The pre-release is nice,though-really smooth on the
Windows/NT system.

I don't know if it is any indication, but I got a call from NewTek yesterday
saying that my Credit card had been declined. Now if they are chargeing My card
and not ready to ship, I will finaly be persuaded that something has seriously
broken down at the NewTek management level. However being the eternal optimist,
I did talk to Brad Pebbler last week (Lightwaves Product Manager) and he said
he was hoping it would start going out on Monday. That would explain the
charge.

Brad, FWIW, I was assured that my CC would not be charged until LW shipped.

Just ordered Stand Alone LightWave myself on the 15th (very last
minute) and was told that 4.0 should be shipping by next week and also was told
that they wouldn't charge my credit card until it began shipping. What could
have happened was that they did an authorization on your credit card, which
doesn't charge you but it let's the merchant see if you really have the money
when it ships.

Still have some bugs to kill, so still (once more with feeling) "a couple of
weeks awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!" (gentle fanfare fades away).
Shipping order looks like Intel first, DEC a couple weeks after, MIPS about
then or just after DEC, SGI after that, finally Amiga.
Flyer owners should be getting a beta LW 4.0 for Flyer in an update rev in the
next 2 or 3 weeks (or so).
Just so you know, HIIP on Intel is one of the items we are busy swatting away
at. It is pretty well behaved on the other platforms, but has been a bear on
Intel.
Haven't seen the demo you mention, will look for it.
Chuck.
Chuck:
A little off-topic, but you mentioned HIIP….
What sort of HIIP savers will ship with 4.0?
Will other savers be available for free?
(Or is this why Elastic Reality is so happy to have HIIP in every program?
};^)
Thanks!

The HIIP comes with about 20 loaders/savers, for various Mac, PC, SGI and Amiga
formats. I'm not sure what arrangements would be for additional
loaders/savers, but PCX, TIFF, AVI, RGB, etc pretty well cover the popular
stuff.

Chuck –
The demo was apparently huge at Siggraph so I can't believe you didn't hear of
it!!- Don't you guys ever check on your competeitors? ;-^)
there are a couple of files in the 3Dstudio lib over at ADESK forum – despite
being a recent convert to LW from 3DS I have to admit it looks AWSOME.
I was suprised to hear the HIIP code is proving a sticking block as Elastic
reality has been out for the PC for some time with presumably similar code. Or
is it just the 3d translators that are causing hassle (I know what a pain in
the but DXF is!)
yours looking forward eternally to a couple of weeks in the future(G)
Stuart
I'm not sure what the sticking point is on HIIP, other than that code which
compiled and ran perfectly on Amiga, DEC, and MIPS, will not run on Intel, and
is having to be modified for that platform. They are getting the corrections
done, but this is holding shipping.
NewTek does keep an eye on the competition, but I personally am chained to this
keyboard, here, and never get to Siggraph or do anything much but type here. 🙁
I'll check on that demo, though!
Chuck.
