# PAR Q FACTOR AND EDIT

Hi there
Does any body know if it is possble to edit clips of differant compression
settings , together using Par?!
I have a bunch of Ani clips of differant q factors and they all play very
smooth individually!!
But when edited together through Par software or Premier and Par Codec, the
edited movie cant be played back through Par. It gets scrambeled! Par cant
handel it!???
Can anyone give me an idea about whats going on? Is this a q factor
problem?…..

ARA, I am no expert on Premier and the PAR codec, but I am pretty sure that
you ought to be able to edit together clips captured with varying Q factors.
Were there certain clips you had trouble with or did they all come up scrabled.
Sometimes if the recorded Q factor was too low trouble like this could occur.
What happens if you use the JOIN feature in the PAR software? Do you get
similar results?

Thanks for the reply.
Some times the whole thing comes out garbled sometimes a particular clip
trigers it! Intresting thing is that if i use the slider to scroll through the
edit, things look fine! But in playback mode they get garbled!!
I have not tried the join option in par on these clips yet! I let the Par Codec
and Premier take care of this! I will try join and i will let you know!
Do you work for in-sync??
If yes, then i need to share something with you.
I started this project (its a music video) with Razor Pro! i own a copy of it
which was upgraded from razor!
I was very excited that it works with par! I moved to premier becouse i found
its manual much more clearer!! Yap! thats the main reason and also it froze on
me a good few times! also, premier has a lot more filters and transitions, out
of the box too!
But still i though Razor Pro, which is specifically designed to work with
Par, to be easer to implement. Somehow i did not feel comfortable with it????
And i owned Razor Pro months befor i bought Premier!
Do you guys have a newer better manual? do you have a filter/transition pack?
Will i need to worry about the problems you discussed, with Razor as well?
Please let me know if you can get me out of my mess!!! (:-(

Ara,
Have you optimized the PAR drive recently? This may help make the join
cleaner, since it will be stored on a faster part of the hd.

I optimize the Par on hourly basis when i am in it. but when using premier i
havent really watched for that.?! Maybee i will need to optimize par befor i
run the final edit run?!

It might be worth a try… Is there any way for you to remove/backup some
of the data on the drive to gain more speed?
BTW, did you notice how close our CIS numbers are? <g>

Any way, i have resorted to copying some the lesser important files to an other
disk to make par run smoother!
The problem with this is that i dont have all my clips availible to at all
times for experimenting!!
