#Internet and 3DS
10 messages in this thread
All,
Are there good 3DS sites on the Internet that I should know about. I would
like to see more examples of everyones work, but Compuserve is too expensive.
Are the Compuserve 3DS Libraries available on the Internet? I'm also
interested in any Internet locations for AAS and IPAS.
Also, why isn't 3DS mentioned anywhere on the Autodesk homepage at
www.autodesk.com?
Thanks,
byron
Hey Byron,
Check out alt.3d.studio with your newsreader. I use freeagent and like
it alot.

The only major mesh/IPAS ftp site on the net thus far is called "AVALON" and is
at avalon.datalabs.com.
There are three usenet areas where you see 3DS talk: alt.3d, alt.3d.studio, and
comp.graphics.packages.3dstudio. All three have been pretty horrible so far,
mostly consisting of clueless pirates and people who wish to be clueless
pirates. The *real* action so far is on the 3DS mail list that Autodesk
maintains. Send email to majordomo@autodesk.com for details.

Rumor is, a major 3DS WWW page is to be announced by Autodesk at Siggraph.

It's like an email form of a party line. You subscribe to the list, then
anytime a message is sent to the list, everyone gets the message in their
email. It makes for a full in-basket, but the people on the 3DS mail list are
much more responsible than the slackers that dominate usenet.
Jim
How do I get on,
and Usenet erghh!!!
Quetions like: What does Invalid Normal array mean?
:), A: means your a pirate son!
That seems to annoy them, I have no idea why ROFL.
Do you have an address is it run by Autodesk or an Individual?
Boy there E-mail Bill must be through the roof
Greg 🙂

send an email to majordomo@autodesk.com for information. To subscribe, send
that address a message that says:
subscribe myname@myprovider.com 3dstudio
where you substitute in your name, of course… <G>

On the internet, there *is* no email bill. I pay about $10/month for nearly
unlimited access. I think Autodesk has a permanent Internet link for all the
things that they have on the net.
Jim
Unlimited E-mail, Boy CIS have me over a barrel, mind you UK access cost
alot more than US access e.g. 99% over here don't have free local calls!
Thanks for the advice, they really should put these things in the manuals LOL.
Matt and Greg 🙂
Hi Byron,
re: CIS is expensive… are you using an off-line reader program like OZCIS,
NAVCIS, or TAPCIS?? These programs will save you a significant amount of online
costs. I use OZCIS. It's shareware and can be downloaded from CIS.
Sorry that I can't help you with 3DS on the Internet…
Sincerely,
Tom
