Jim,
Do you still write columns for any mags? Forgive my bad memory but I know I
used to read your columns on one of the old mags was it Run?

I don't currently write anything for the Amiga.
I do write a column (maybe to become two, I'm not sure) for "Commodore
World", published by CMD. And Jack Vander White (CEE-64 Alive!) has expressed
interest in recycling some of my earlier material, including perhaps the book
on Machine Langauge.
Most of my writing ten years or so back was done for Compute! magazine, and
The Transactor .. but I did publish stuff most everywhere else, too.

Thought so, did you ever write a series on Basic 7.0 for the 128?

When the 128 was first released, I wrote a series of articles on how to
handle it, from both Basic and M/L programming standpoints. I also did memory
maps and architectural descriptions (Transactor July 1986, V7 issue 1).
And, of course, a few utilities.

Are there any Amiga magazines left in the USA…there used to be Amazing
Computing and AmigaWorld just to name a few. I go way back to the beginning of
the Amiga…when Guy Wright was the editor of AmigaWorld.

Interestingly enough, I took a trip to my local bookstore last night and found
AmigaWorld and Amazing Computing. It's sad that even the games have stopped
advertising and both publications are so thin now. However, AmigaWorld was an
April issue…is this now a quarterly magazine?
AmigaWorld is gone.
AmigaWorld closed down with the April issue. Amazing is the only American
magazine left. Sad.

I just bought an April issue of AmigaWorld and the latest of Amazing. How
sad…maybe they will come back now that Escom is in the picture.
We can hope so, Steve. But unless ESCOM does some advertising and sells some
units here, I don't think we'll see a big surge in magazines here, either.

It's just another rumor (I fear) but here in Europe it's said, that ESCOM will
ship the first units in Sept.95. This message I got from one of the few shops,
which never thought to give up their business with Amigas.

Ernst, I suspect you are right about that. We've also read here that the first
units will be shipped in September. (Nice to know it's '95, tho. I don't
think ours were specific.)<g>

No, unfortunately April was the last issue of Amiga World, IDG closed 'em
down. Those with time left in their subscriptions were given a choice between
a Video magazine and Amiga Computing, a UK mag that's doing a North American
version now. AC (the UK one) isn't all that bad. Unfortunately, I think the
name confusion (Amazing Computing/Amiga Computing) might not be a good
thing..:(

I guess they weren't profitable or IDG wouldn't have closed shop. That's what
happened to us and our products, excellence, scribble, online etc.
Our registered users were supporting us with the upgrades, but there were no
new users to support the products as well and it's unfortunate, but those of us
who ran small to medium corporations with a fair amount of employees had to
"jump ship" in order to make sure those people kept their jobs. We are
considering re-releasing some of our Amiga software, but still have not
decided. When a decision is made we will announce it one way or the other!

I know of many people who would be thrilled to hear this and that still
lament the loss of Excellance!

Hi Steve,
Not that it's any help, but I still use Scribble today and it's never let me
down. It's unfortunate when companies go under for whatever reason because if
their ever was any new users we couldn't get our hands on your products even if
we tried and just laterly this has been happening with a fair few on the Amiga
side.

We did not go "under". However, we were not able to sustain the company on
Amiga software alone so we ventured into other arenas. It would be wonderful if
Escom were able to revive the Amiga thus allowing developers to be competitive
and earn at least a "living".
Thanks for using Scribble! all of these years….I must say you're quite
devoted!

By "going under" I was leaning more to the fact of software not been available
anymore, which is a great shame.
Well I've always kept DTP and word processing separate, as the speed of the
graphic word processors isn't fast enough. Never got round to getting Protext,
as Scribble did what I wanted – so why change! About the only thing I do with
Scribble! is check the Thesaurus with Final Copy, as it usually comes up with a
few more choices. Still, not a bad program for it's age, would be nice to have
an update however :).
