Remember the 32-bit amiga game system that had AGA chips? Well I heard of a new one now that the Amiga is back that was called Amiga RISCA4000 or something like that, I'm not quite shure. Anyway, I'd like more input.

There were rumors that people had seen an Amiga CD64. Of course CBM denied that they existed, but with CBM it could mean that it did. Really there was nothing to stop CBM from putting a risc chip inside an amiga, it would be pretty easy on the hardware side. The only real problem would be the operating system, and if they had an 020 AND a risc chip, then that wouldn't be a problem as they could kludge it together so that only games that new about the risc chip could access it, and any operating system calls could be done using the 020. Whether this is related to the amiga risc a4000 I don't know though Phill

No, I mean a video game CONSOLE that was coming out. There was one before comodore went bankrupt, and I heard rumors of a better one coming out.

That is what I was talking about, the CD32 was the AGA CD console, there was rumor of the CD64 which was supposed to be risc, but it was denied. As I said, the only thing stopping anyone from putting a risc chip or two in an amiga would be the lack of software, with a 68020 and a couple of risc chips you would have the best of both worlds. You could have the 020 doing all the OS stuff and the riscs doing 3d calculations and rendering etc. Phill

<<As I said, the only thing stopping anyone from putting a RISC chip or two in an amiga is the lack of software.>> The thing is, I wasn't talking about the Amiga at all, just a video game console. And on that subject, I don't see why they don't just rewrite the OS. Apple did it (most of it, anyway.:( and have a 680X0 emulator, just as apple has.

Apple have hardly rewritten any of MacOS to run on the power PC, just enough to get the thing running. When you were talking about a new console, I am sure you mentioned that you were talking about an amiga games console, I could be wrong though. Some of the new consoles look good, the sega saturn is quite impressive when doing 3d. I wish the amiga could come close 🙁 Phill

I know! It's just waaaayyy too expensive for me. Apple and IBM computers do quite well with graphics (If you get a power PC or Pentium, or even a Quadra or 486.) the reason the Amiga doesn't do well with graphics is because it isn't advanced enough. The Amiga 4000 is awsome with graphics, it just needs some enhancements like a RISC processor. Then it could really go ape!

The current MacOS System 7.5.2 is about 40% PPC native and the kernal is 100% native. With 7.5.3, it will be better than 50% native and Copland to ship early next year will be 100% native. -Jonathan MAC Quadra/486PC compatible courtesy Amiga, Emplant and BB. Emplant beta tester. I heard much much lower rates about the native power pc code in MacOS. Even in 7.5.2 I was under the impression that most of the code was still emulated, which is why copland is so attractive. Unless you have access to the code, it's hard to know what to beleive. Phill

This is according to my ADPA notes. The core kernal is the most important part of the port and that has already been done to a large extent. The new 604 emulated 68k instruction faster than the 40Mhz 040 according to the latest benchmarks (running on the Catalyst) -Jonathan MAC Quadra/486PC compatible courtesy Amiga, Emplant and BB. Whatever, I kept reading people talking about the low amount of native code in the PowerMac OS. I suppose it might just be that they were misinformed. Maybe its as fast as it gets 🙁 I think the 604 and faster PowerPC chips could set the world alight. If you can buy a machine with windows 95 preinstalled. Once they can get emulated pentium performance then they can sell to the uninitiated as well as the converted. Pity the amiga never got risc, maybe it will now, but I am not going to stop breathing in anticipation. Phill

You won't have to worry about Pentium emulation. MS NT has already been ported to native PowerPC and Win95 is being ported as well (the kernal that is). -Jonathan MAC Quadra/486PC compatible courtesy Amiga, Emplant and BB. Emplant beta tester. 'Scuse my MacIgnorance, but when are they going to get Multi-tasking? wmc – via Autopilot!
#47830From: Jonathan BlackwellAug 11, 1995 10:02 PM
It is already there (cooperative multitasking)… Copland will make it preemptive. Even with that, it will NOT be AmigaDOS 🙂 -Jonathan MAC Quadra/486PC compatible courtesy Amiga, Emplant and BB. Emplant beta tester. Running AP v1.80. E-mail: JonathanB@delrina.com http://www.delrina.com

Well, as long as I could have an NLE rendering a transitions in one window while I do some image processing in another, and a term progam is dowloading data from a modem and someone else is peeling off public files via a newtork from my HD, I wouldn't care what it is called or how it is implemented as long as it is stable and the machine can actively run and update multiple apps and data sets "at once" :^} wmc – via Autopilot!

Like I said, it still will not be AmigaDOS -Jonathan MAC Quadra/486PC compatible courtesy Amiga, Emplant and BB. Emplant beta tester. Running AP v1.80. E-mail: JonathanB@delrina.com http://www.delrina.com

rumours about a400 with built in pc emulation flying about from mit in usa

a400 or a4000? There is no reason why you couldn't buy an a4000 with built in pc emulation if it was bundled with a bridgeboard. Phill
