I looking for a C/C++ compiler for Amiga. This is for a student and she doesn't want to spend a whole lot. Can anybody help??

Hisoft don't supply it anymore, the only copy they have left is the one they use for inhouse development, I did make them an offer, but they weren't interested 🙁 I will try and get a copy second hand or from SAS in the states if they have any left Phill

Jon, I've got a friend that just jumped the Amiga ship and was talking about selling some of his old software. I saw a SAS C++ package on the shelf he might get rid of for a reasonable price. I'll give him a call tomorrow before work and let you know what he wants. Jim

There is also Comeau C++ at $250. We require an Amiga C compiler too, which might break "spending a whole lot" on a student budget, but you could of course pass it by her.

You might try downloading the gnu C++ compiler from this forum. It's large and will take some time but it works great on my A4000. It's free (except for the download cost). Can't find one much cheaper than that! Cheers, Dan Wolfson

Do you know how good the gnu code generator/optimiser is compared to SAS C/C++ 6.55????? I have 6.3, and am trying to get hold of 6.5 or later, if gnu is better I will get that thanks in advance Phill

I've seen here and there "tests" here and on the net over the years and all they conclude better optimised by the SAS, but if You switch on the actual optimiser then the GNU is the best You can find because many many people put a lot of work into this beast. cya Jochen Antesberger from Neuburg a.d.
