Does anyone know where I can get a printer driver for a HP Laserjet 4
printer (600 dpi) to use with the Amiga? I called HP customer assistance,
and they had never heard of the Amiga or Amiga software. The printer is
postscript with six megs of RAM. I've tried using the postscript driver
in preferences, but when I try to output a Toaster framestore through AD
Pro, it takes about an hour (with the printer blinking steadily receiving
data) but nothing ever comes forth (I don't even get a blank sheet feed.)
If I use the Laserjet driver, I don't get the full resolution of the
printer. Any ideas?
Don't know if this helps, but what I do with my QMS 600 dpi
postscript printer is set the resolution through a DOS machine using
the included software. When I print through the Amiga, using the
Postscript option, everything works fine.
There is a driver available here on CIS from Kelly Jordan and there
is Studio, a commercial driver package for the LJ4. And if you are
from Europe, you can get "Studio Light" from HP's FulFillment house.
So yes, HP is now shiping Amiga drivers like several other drivers
for "non-standard" systems here in Europe…

ADPros's postscript output option is busted as far as I can tell.
My experience with it and the HPLJ4M was the same. Maybe someone else
knows how to make it work. I use the Commodore supplied Postscript
driver with good results and there is a commercial driver available.
You might try printing Framestores from Imagemaster or convert the
framestore to IFF and print from a DTP program like Pagestream or
ProPage. This would allow easy scaling to fit the page and WILL use
the full resolution of the printer. Goin' AP
