Sometimes it is. If you haven't written over that section of the disk, you
may be able to retrieve it with either DiskSalve (commercial now, I think) or
Ami-Back Tools (also commercial). I've had rather good luck with Ami-Back,
haven't tried DiskSalve. Good luck!

DiskSalv has the advantage of having been written by Dave Haynie, who ought to
know the ins and outs of the file system as well as anyone!
