Hi,
after the last Usermeeting of my local BBs we drove to the sysops home and
amiga and he has the ISDN-Master Card in his machine. Then came a netcall,
incredible! That card must suck the bits so that a under-pressure is in the
line 🙂 Later we called into another BBS: Dialing, 2 seconds CONNECT/X.74/64000
or so. If my computer were faster I would buy an external ISND-Modem which
would save me a lot of money, 1MB per minute!

At least you have something positive about ISDN. I am so used to see and hear
ugly news about it that I more or less began to think it was vapourware.

Ever had a look at my footer? Although german Telekom comes right after Mafia
and Church (and banks and insurances…) its ISDN is quite good. I don`t know
until what date but at least they did give you a credit of 300DM on your
account for buying a ISDN-Device or 700DM for a ISDN-Station (or whatever it`s
called in English). Such a Station handles incoming calls on the both
phonechannels so that You can handle lots of phones. Nothing new but improved
IMHO.
I`ve heard that in the States ISDN isn`t that easy because of all that
different phonecompanies. Don`t remember exactly what this was about. But then,
there MUST be at least one advantage for having only one
monster-moneysucking-no-service-no-idea-how-it-is-running-company!

Here in the US ISDN is just starting to take off on the consumer level. My
price for ISDN in my home has recently gone down from $300 per month to $60 per
month. The main hold up on its acceptance in the US can be blamed on 2
different reasons. The first is that ISDN give you things by default that the
phone companies charge extra for using a different technology (caller ID,
"smart" devices, call waiting, etc). Another problem is the lack of ISDN
protocol standards in the US … Germany is on the leading edge in ISDN
implementation — I understand that when you order a phone line in Germany you
automatically get an ISDN hookup (assuming the local office offers the ESS-5
(or better) switch).
At work I'm doing some stuff with ISDN … because we do a lot of business in
Germany and because there IS a standard in Germany, we've adopted the German
standard in our business.

We're getting ISDN at home within a few weeks too. I'd like to compare notes
with you about how well it works once I get it here.
Do you have it connected to the Internet through this ISDN line? Or are you
directly connected to the place you work?
