I think Atari has a winner on their hands. (I also think 3DO will make waves
among the better-heeled set; Atari will make a killing with families on a
budget)
And Commodore? They were stashed in a suite on a relatively quiet second-floor
corridor, where only dedicated Commodore fans would make the effort to find
them, much less walk in. I cringe at the thought of all the action that
Commodore lost by not being on the main floor, with 80,000 people walking by.
And of course, CD32 looked incredibly dated when compared to 3DO. I'm afraid
our little CD unit is doomed to obscurity. Sure, it's hundreds less than 3DO,
but so is Jaguar — and Jaguar packs a mean punch. CD32 will quickly get lost
in the shuffle.
All in all, a great return on investment. In addition to the emotional power
of the event, (I can die happy) I also got some great perks for my 10 bucks: 30
free magazines (sample issues of GamePro, Spin, Rolling Stone, Videomaker,
Satellite Business News… the list is endless) and $150 US of free CD-ROMs! I
got "250 music clips" and 2 copies of "the 1000 greatest sound effects"! I
can't wait to try out these totally royalty-free libraries, and will report on
my findings.

I think the Jag will get completely lost, simply because there is almost no
software for it.
And 3DO, while interesting, is still *way* too expensive.

Who knows what's going to happen. I agree that 3DO is overpriced. I'll
probably wait and see what does better; Jaguar or CD32, and then get that
unit. I do know that the Jaguar sold extremely well here in New York
during the holidays. People were lined up in a number of stores waiting to
buy them.

I just saw the local news coverage of CES Las Vegas and they talked about
the Jaguar and 3D0 and even had interviews with some of the marketing
folks from both companies…. strange thing is, though, when they showed
machines playing games, it was the CD32 running Oscars and another Pinball
Fantasies!!! Great screens, but no verbal mention.

I heard everyone was impressed by the TV commercial CBM showed for CD32
which was playing of CD32 with their MPEG board. reports say it looked
almost as good as the taped version. I also heard of a Sony game machine
based around the AGA chipset.

If true, it might be the smartest thing C= ever did. (though I find it
hard to believe.)

Microsoft might try to do something about this, but let's hope they

Sony's PSX Playstation doesn't use the AGA chipset. Its graphics make 3DO
look like a VIC-20…

In the coverage I saw, it was the same thing. They talked about the
Jaguar and 3DO, but there were no CD32 screen shots.

Gosh, and people were asking me several months ago, "What's 3DO?", I knew
it then that it would be the killer game machine of '94.
On a good note, nearly a year ago Interplay pretty much dismissed the
Amiga as profitable for game development & sales, but now they have some
CD32's in their "factory", and are quite positive about it. Don't really
know at this time is that means they are developing titles yet.
BTW, did you see Interplay's booth? I was involved in their videowall
production. How did it look?

I saw so many video walls that I couldn't remember the Interplay one even under
the influence of truth serum. All I can say is, most of them looked reaallly
good.
