Ferrin, . the Sonnet is a 50MHz upgrade for the Commodore A3640 CPU board which simply doubles the CPU's clock frequency. This is done by a minimum of electronic hardware, especially selected CPUs (there are no true 50MHz 68040s) and a CPU cooling ventilator. The product does exactly what can be expected of this type of setup: it doubles the speed of a 25MHz 040 system (quadruples the speed of a 25MHz 030 system) except for memory access, as there's no on-board memory. The hardware upgrade is completely transparent to the system and compatibility is 100% – if it runs on a 68040-25 it will run on the Sonnet, only twice as fast. The price in Germany is DM999 (about US$700) without the A3640 board. The distributor is: OMEGA Datentechnik GmbH Junkerstr. 2 D-26123 Oldenburg Tel.: ++49-(0)441/82257 Fax : ++49-(0)441/885408 Cheers, // Christian "ELP" Busse \X/ near Frankfurt, Germany
