Is this driver available publicly or commercially? And does it only work on
A4k's (i.e. any IDE HD controller?)

It is commercial. A demo is available here on CServe (IDEFIX.LHA).
It works with A600/1200/4000 IDE ports.

Are you the author of the IDEFIX program?
I can't get it working on my A4000. I have tried both the LoadIDE and IDEFix
programs in my startup sequence right before SETPATCH and both lock up the
machine.
I am also running SHAPESHITER which does a machine reset and its command is
right after SETPATCH. Maybe the two are incompatible?
I am running an A4000/040 with latest Rev3.1 CPU board and Rev11 Buster with
18megs of ram. I have one IDE drive a Maxtor 1.26gig enhanced IDE model
71260A.
Any input would be appreciated.

Try putting it AFTER SetPatch!
