Well if your not set on using the MSDOS version of Quicken, you might consider running one of the Mac emulators like ShapeShifter. I've been using Quicken for quite some time now and it works great. Plus, if you use a Mac version it will run considerably faster than a PC emulation like PC Task. // John (Warp 4040 & ShapeShifter Quadra 840) \X/ jgager@BMI.NET

John, < Well if your not set on using the MSDOS version of Quicken, you might consider running one of the Mac emulators like ShapeShifter. I like that idea! Never cared much for PC's anyway. I have a need to run Quicken and I'm looking for the least painful (and cheapest) way to do it. I have a copied version of Quicken for DOS, an incomplete version of MSDOSv3.3, and a questionable copy of PCTaskv1.12. Well…IT DON'T WORK. I'm willing to buy new versions of whatever I need to make it work (short of buying new hardware). About the Mac, (a closer cousin to the Amiga than a PC), I have heard of ShapeShifter but I was confused about the fact that you need to have Mac ROMS and OS (both not included) . Am I totally in the dark? Or is it easier than I think it is? Any Suggestions would be appreciated. BTW what is Warp 4040 & Quadra 840? thanks, Paul C. Zawisa

You do need a MAC ROM image and the Mac OS before you can use ShapeShifter. The ShapeShifter package contains a Mac program that you can transport to a Mac. When executed, this program will dump the ROM to a file that you then transport back to the Amiga for use with ShapeShifter. Not exactly ethical if you don't own a Mac, but if you feel uncomfortable about this, you can buy the ROM's from Amiga mailorder outfits that sell the Emplant. Then you need to purchase the System 7.5 OS, or use System 7.1 that is freely distributable and available on the nets. I bought 7.5 and it seems to work fine with ShapeShifter. Some of the programs I've purchased and use with ShapeShifter include PhotoShop 3.04, KPT Bryce, BlackBox Filters 2.0, Quicken 5.0, PrintShop Deluxe Ensemble (CD), Myst, and a bunch of other games/flight simulators. A Warp 4040 is the MacroSystem US accelerator for the 4000, actually called the WarpEngine. It has a 40mHz 68040 and includes a SCSI-II FAST controller. The ShapeShifter emulation is equivalent to a Mac Quadra 840 in speed tests so that explains my signature <g>. // John (Warp 4040 & ShapeShifter Quadra 840) \X/ jgager@BMI.NET

John, > use System 7.1 that is freely distributable and available on the nets. The only net I subscribe to is Compuserve and since I only have the demo version of autopilot 1.80 I'm only active in the Amiga forums. If you could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. John, How does shapeshifter perform on an unaccelerated 4000/030. Slower yes but is it workable. Andrew Letchford, Plymouth UK.

"How does shapeshifter perform on an unaccelerated 4000/030. Slower yes but is it workable." Yes, it should be very workable Andrew. What I've found is that the speed of your Amiga system gives you about the same speed as a comparable Mac system except in the Video display. To really get good speed out of ShapeShifter, a graphics card helps considerably. // John (Warp 4040 & ShapeShifter Quadra 840) \X/ jgager@BMI.NET
