New LW Objects!
15 messages in this thread
Attention LightWave Users:
I've just uploaded several objects for LightWave.
To get a full description, read the message 'New LW Objects!' in
AmigaArts Rendering Forum.
The objects will be in AmigaArts 3D Library – as soon as there is some
room for me to finish uploading them. :^)
Enjoy,

Erik, if I download the objects from Compuserve on an IBM machine, how
do I copy them to my Toaster 4000? I'm kind of new to this.
Appreciate the help. Thanks Lance
Uh………I _think_ it should be fairly easy.
First of all, DL the files to your PC.
Now, if you've got an Amiga 4000, you can use HiDensity floppies. If you
have an Amiga 20000, you'll have to use LoDensity 720K floppies. (If
you're using a 2000 with WorkBench 1.3, then you're kinda hosed. [Is your
WorkBench screen Blue & White, or Grey and Black? – If it _is_ 1.3 {BLUE},
then I _strongly_ recommend you upgrade to at least WorkBench 2.1])
Note: The files are all compressed using the current Amiga standard
archiving utility. If you dont' already have 'LHA', you'll probably also
want to get the file LHA138.RUN from the Amiga User Forum – it contains
the 'lha' archiving utility you'll need to decompress the files once they
get to the Amiga.
OK, now that you've got an IBM formatted floppy disk with the needed files
on it, do the following:
1. Startup your Amiga, and go to the WorkBench. (If you need help to get
to this point, refer to your manuals, or let me know.)
2. Stick the IBM disk in your Amiga.
3. A little disk icon should appear on your WorkBench. (It'll probably be
called 'MS-DOS5.0', or something like that.)
4. Open up a 'Shell' (=DOS Command Line), by clicking on the 'Shell' icon.
(It should be in your System partition.)
5. Copy the file to RAM disk by typing the following:
'copy DF0: RAM:'
6. Change to the RAM: directory by typing 'cd RAM:'
7. If you need to, unarc the 'LHA' file by typing LHA138.RUN.
8. Type 'LHA x *.lha' to unarc the files for installation.
9. Using the WorkBench, double click on the RAM: icon (called `Ram Disk')
to oopen the drawer, and then double-click on the 'ClickToInstall' icon
you'll see in there.
10. At this point, just follow the onscreen instructions.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Have fun with the objects!
Good Luck,

Lance,
PMFJI, but there's a nice set of shareware file transfer programs to move
files between PC's and Amigas over the serial ports thru a null modem
cable. One program for each side, and you can transfer stuff at 13,800
KBYTES (not bits) per second. Great for a lot of stuff but where
networking isn't justified. Check out TWINEX.LHA in the AmigaTech forum.

Yeah, but where do you find the PC side of TwinExpress?!?
I DL'd the TwinExpress program for the Amiga side, but couldn't locate the
PC version?
Thanks for your help!,

Eric,
Test your archive, you may have had a problem. There should be a 55K
file called TwinPC.exe in there, and it is the PC version of the
program. The whole archive should be ~110K.
Also, make sure that you fire it up with the proper com port as an
argument. Mine uses COM2, as the internal modem on the PC is COM1.
You can also do this with an .INI or .BAT file, I think.
G'Luck guy.

Thanks! I had 2 archives – one included the TwinPP.exe file.
(I must have unarced the smaller one – which doesn't have the TwinPC.exe
file. :^O)

Howdy Erik, congrats on yer 2 images gracing the cover of the new
Amigaworld, tho they Screwed up the Earth/Sun image by placing their Title
over yer Picture.
Typical! No respect for the arteest! :^)
Hopefully, I'll be getting a copy in the mail on Sat. Look forward to
checking it out. (There's supposed to be a full 2-page spread of the earth
inside also? Too bad it was before someone gave me the idea of using a
luminosity map for the nightside! :^)

hehehehehehehehehehehehehe in the immortal word of Jabberjaw the Animated
Shark "Ummmmmm Gotcha!!!"
Eric,
Great! Let me know how it works.
BTW, don't switch the thing in when either computer is live. I've got the
link, my modem and Personal Editor on a switchbox, and the Amiga gets
wierd stuff happening if I try otherwise. I'm suprised my CIA chips still
work.

I still have as yet to figure out the switchbox configuration I'm going to
need to use TwinExpress.
I already tie up Com2 on the IBM with the modem (which is coupled to the
Amiga by a switchbox), and Com1 is for the mouse, so it's looking like the
best solution might be to custom wire a 4-way switchbox. (So that the
modem could be replaced by a loop between the 2 computers.)
Thanks for steering me in the right direction,

If you get the TwinEx working well, you may not need the connection from
one machine to the modem.
Also, the Shopper lists dual serial boards for the PC pretty cheap.
