#Sliders/Lightning
12 messages in this thread
Is anyone familiar with the TV show Sliders? I'm curious if you can animate
the dimensional portal shown on the series with Image FX 2.0. Can it be done?
Also how much control do you have over animating lightning effects? I have
Image FX 1.51, so I'm doing some research before deciding to buy 2.0. Thanks.

I animated the effects for Sliders using LightWave 3D and WinImages/FX
(available as ImageMaster on Amigas). I would think that the new ImageFX
might be capable of the same effects. I am just installing the new
version today, so maybe in a few weeks I can let you know.

That's just like you Grant, "I did this, and I did that." Is there a show on tv
that you guys don't touch in one way or another. 8)

Well, I did…sniff. "Not a lot of people know that!" :}
Seriously. LightWave is everywhere on tv these days. The list in the new
lightwave ads needs updating daily :} You can add Legend (Amblin Imaging)
and Space (Area 51) to the ads already.
I am really glad to see the LightWave users dominating the airwaves.

No kidding? I have Lightwave with my Toaster, and I think Image FX is about
the same as ImageMaster. How did you do the effects? I think your work on the
show is great! I especially like the effects of the Huge Wave coming down to
crash on California and the "Waterworld" parallel Earth that followed. Can't
wait for Sliders to come back next Spring—excellent show! It deserves a
regular spot.

Greg Teegarden did the wave crash composite and we're very glad you dig
the show. It was cancelled for a while, but now it is back (deservedly
so).

It sure does deserve to come back; Sliders has a lot of potential. So, is
Jerry O Connell still acting for the show, or did he go after other projects?

Pretty much every aspect of ImageFX is animatable. I have done some nice stuff
with the lightning effects. You may have to get your hands a little dirty and
dive in head first to arexx, but if you have any questions let me know. I'm
writing an artical about it as we speak.

Brad,
If you've done anything with ImageFX to tape or film we'd love to see it!

I am working on somthing right now that I think you will like. But befor I
can complet it I need to know: is there a way to take a Toaster frame store in
to IFX process it and save it back out while maintainint he seperate Fields? I
can save the fields individualy out of the Flyer, But there is currently no way
to re-combine them that I know of.
Also this is one of the few weaknesses of IFX, if you import a FrameStore
file IFX will seem to blend the fields, and soften the quality of the image. In
ADPro it seems to make an interlaces (Flickery) IFF. I am going to spen the
weekend working this through. Do I not have somthing set right?

Brad,
You'll find interlace/deinterlace options in ImageFX that will do what you
want. If you run ImageFX with the switcher in the background it'll use the
same, exactly the same, calls to load Framestores that the Toaster software
uses.

Thanks I'll give it a try…8)
