#HELP!!! – .SIT files
12 messages in this thread
I am a big aficionado of graphics AND movies found in other forums.
Since I try to use just my Amiga for this I have found a little problem; many
animations are found compressed in a Mac standard, the .SIT file. In order to
view these animations I must take the file to a PC :-(( and use UNSTUFF or
somthing like that and then back to Amy (not very easy since those files easily
exceed 1.5 Mb). Here are some .SIT decompressors, unfortunately outdated and
which cannot decompress the current .SIT format.
Does anyone know of an Amiga .SIT decompressor suitable for this?
(AND the new .LZX format in Amiga compresses better than .SIT !!!)

The most recent Unstuff utilities I have found for Amiga are UnStuff v2.0 and
UnSit v. .9. Neither will correctly unstuff most of the current Mac files. My
solution is to use CIM under emplant, and then transfer only the data fork of
the file back to the Amiga side. Works like a charm.

OK. Now I just have to wait (or not?) for an A1200 version of Emplant
(YES!!! I don't own an A4000 as yet :-<<< ; switching to "wait and see" mode on
the overpricing ESCOM issue)

Hi Mauro,
>> Now I just have to wait (or not?) for an A1200 version of Emplant <<
There is also a software-only Mac-emulator called ShapeShifter. It's upto
version 3.0 now and the demo version is available on Aminet (and also in
AmigaUser Forum I think).

No need to wait for an A1200 version of Emplant. There's always Amax.
PKB
how can that work in a 1200?
If we're talking about AMAX (and I assume Shapeshifter as well), it'd work just
fine in an A1200. The original Amax is a cartridge that attaches to your
floppy drive port. All it really contains are the Mac roms and a couple of
disk drive ports (one for an 800K Mac drive and another for an Amiga drive).
You can't have the fancy color (at least in early Amax), but you get pretty
solid Mac emulation, and used Amax cartridges are pretty readily available. It
will certainly run CIM, and that's a lot of what I use my Emplant for.

but is that the amax 2+ because that's the onlyone I 've seen besides the 4
version….too bad the 4 version isn't the same as the old one…but i'd rather
stick with shaapeshifter
Actually, I was thinking of Amax2, not 2+, but Shapeshifter sounds like the way
to go now.
Paul,
MY Amax cartridge stopped working when I upgraded to system 3.1. I wouldn't
expect that they would work with the 1200.

get a 060 for the 1200 and shapeshifter….and sys7.5…and 16mb of ram…
did you download the unstuffer from the internet? it's ben updated in 1992 and
seems to unstuff all the sit files i have…but these maybe old too…
