Me too! I plan on using HQ5 also, on short projects or when I get a terobyte
drive.

The fact that some video looks fine in HQ5 but looks softer, noisier, etc. in
standard mode is not a bug. Same with EP. In any video compression system,
the more compression that is applied the more detail is lost and the more
artifacting that occurs. Standard mode builds all video to an expected drive
speed of 3.7M/sec; depending on the detail in the video and the change from
frame to frame, quality will vary from "D2" to the maximum compression that EP
applies, and the quality degradation will look similar to the loss in detail
and sharpness and increase in noise that stepping down through various tape
formats produces. EP goes straight for maximum compression on all frames. Do
you expect a long-play mode VHS recording to look the same as a broadcast D2
recording?
HQ5 assumes a drive speed of 4.8M/sec, and at that speed only in very rare
instances would there be a need to jump to a higher compression level to meet
playback speed requirements, so video quality is pretty much fully preserved.

I thought our bug discussion was referring to stuttering drive performance in
HQ. I'm pretty satisfied with the quality/capacity trade-off at standard mode.
I had been responding to a question on my Microp NON-AV HD performance in
standard mode and simply responded that I too would like to see any bugs (which
we really meant as insufficient HD performance) to be cleared up. I guess bug
is getting a bit overused here.
