This is not directly NewTek related, but I have at least moved it out of the LW
4.0 Upgrade thread.
Well, I just got a letter from DPS regarding their bus speed conflict.
Unfortunately, it's not a software fix.
There's a form to fill out if you have a board with a serial number starting
with 5E, 5F or 5G. Apparently some of the interface chips on these batches are
defective.
The defect manifests in "certain computers (66, 100, 133 MHz CPUs) which
operate witha bus speed of 33 MHz."
"This problem does not show up in all systems, but can be identified by one of
these two specific symptoms:
– A 'glitch' or jump in video playback may occur as often as once every 10
frames or as infrequently as once every 100 or more frames. If you examine a
frame containing the glitch, you will notice that part of one field is shifted
in the image. This shift occurs approximately in the middle of the image.
– 'Controller time-out' errors occur when the PVR software is started. If
this happens, the PVR will not recognize the attached drive."
Soooo, you fill out the form, fax it in, they notify you of when a replacement
is ready, you send them your board, and they ship you a new one via overnight
courier. You can give them a credit card deposit if you want the replacement
before you ship the old one.
In the meantime, clocking your bus speed to 30 MHz, i.e. your CPU clock to
60, 90, 120 does fix the problem while you wait for the replacement board.
Also, the NT software is supposed to ship in September.

I'm, still waiting to hear about my backordered Perception recorder
– and it sounds like I'll be lucky to get if before the NT drivers come
out…..
BTW, have you found the LHANT utilitity that they mention in the recent LWPro?
I spent a couple hours searching the net the other day, but nothing matching
LHANT ever showed up?!? (And, of course the author didn't bother to say where
to find it, he just said you had to have it…..)

Yeah, there's nothing like hemorraging on the bleeding edge. Pre-release
software, 1.0 hardware, etc. It's actually all working o.k., but in comparison
with what it's GOING to do, real soon now …
For LHANT, there was something on comp.graphics.apps.LW about "tomahawk
something or other" as an ftp site. The author of LHANT jumped in to mention
that it's a quick port, unfinished, and he doesn't know when he'll get around
to finishing it. Didn't encourage me to write the address down, but it's
probably still in the news.
