I posted a couple messages beginning on Aug 13 concerning problems I'm having with the Receive Shadows attribute. I also UL'd a project file that illustrates the problem with a text file description of the problem to the libraries (Shadows.zip). Has anyone had a chance to look into this or did it get lost in the Siggraph shuffle? JDH

Sorry, but I'm barely on the forum these days… too much to do getting Max ready. You'll have to concentrate on getting answers to questions like this from the Adesk folks. Thanks for understanding (I haven't figured out how to clone myself yet). – G

Hi Jeffrey, << shadow & no shadow..>> I checked out your file and it's very interesting. However, I deleted the floor object that was giving you unpredictable results, created a floor using grid and the grid behaved correctly with respect to not receiving shadows. I'm not sure why the floor object become corrupt, but if you can come up with a reproducible case where I could create a similar floor from scratch that behaved the same, I'd be very happy to receive it. jonas[adesk]

Jonas, Thanks for taking a look. >> created a floor using grid and the grid behaved correctly with respect >> to not receiving shadows. I've created the same situation using various objects including grid. If you take the small floor object (which is hidden) and scale it up it will do the same thing as the large floor object. In any case, I will get a description together of the steps necessary to recreate this phenomenon and cismail them to you. JDH

Jonas, >> if you can come up with a reproducible case where I could create a >> similar floor from scratch that behaved the same, I'd be very happy >> to receive it. I'm sending you cismail a zip (shadows2.zip) that contains shadows2.txt which is a set of steps to reproduce the effect. Also included is shadows2.prj a .prj file with the base geometry that I created for comparison. JDH
