#Imagine PC
4 messages in this thread
I'm thinking of purchasing Imagine PC. I haven't ever seen it advertised in
Computer Shopper. Is it only available direct from Impulse? If it is
available via mail-order, could someone please supply details.
Three other questionx: if I purchase v2.9 NOW, will I have to pay for an
upgrade to v3.0 next month? How much?
Second, how well does v2.9/v3.0 run under Windows. I have a 486-66 with 16 mb,
and I do all of my graphics work within Windows. Is there a reason you went
with DOS in the first place? Do you have any plans for a Windows version?
Third, will Imagine 2.9/3.0 write an alpha channel, like 3ds? I need to
composite renderings and background bitmaps in Photostyler.
Thanks,
Fraser.
Fraser,
No if you buy 2.9, 3.0 is free.
You can until 3.0 is release buy the upgrade for $200.00 until 3.0
ships, it is a competitive upgrade after is ships, 3.0 will be $700.00
Alpha support is in the works for 3.0

Hi,
Imagine 2.9 does not run under Windows, dunno about 3.0, but I guess not.

I got my copy of Imagine 2.0 at ComputAbility although they don't
advertise that they have it. It was a fairly steep $244 considering
that the Amiga version of 2.0 I saw being sold for well under $200.
2.0 is O.K. but 3.0 is a $100 upgrade and they send you 2.9 while you
wait. A definite improvement, although I still find a few bugs like
the inability to return to the system after viewing a graphic within
the program requiring a reboot. Other minuses are no direct True
Color viewing necessitating you go to Windows to view your file which
means you have to exit Imagine and start Windows because Imagine
won't run under Windows. This combination is a big pain in the butt
for me because trying to get the output right requires doing this
repeatedly. But it is fast! It has a great price/performance ratio
too.
