When I save an animation sequence as a Quicktime movie in Animator Pro version 1.0, the resulting file will not play back in my Quicktime for Windows 2.00 player. I think I need help! Background is as follows: – Original sequence is a series of 110 *.tga files, 320 X 240 pixels. – Sequence saves and plays sucessfully as *.avi – Warning from Animator Pro that selection channel can't be saved (maybe I don't understand the significance of that message) – Video output is 16-bit (64k) colour – In Quicktime for Windows Player, player dutifully plays through 110 of blank screen! What am I doing wrong? Neil McEvoy Eolas Inc. Kingston, Canada

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the problem! I'm already using version 1.0 revision c1. I've also updated my Quicktime player to version 2.0.1 (not 2.1), but I still get the blank screen with the Animator Pro movie. Just to be on the safe side, I've tested the player with other *.mov files, and it seems to work fine. I'm wondering if the folks at Autodesk have any ideas about this?

my mistake – Animator Studio, not Animator Pro. Neil

>> my mistake – Animator Studio, not Animator Pro. << oh! okay… (backing up thread on this)… so… when you save out a QuickTime file in Animator Studio R1c1, this file is not playable in your QuickTime 2.0.1 Viewer? (making sure i understand before i spend grey cells) -dave

However, in the QTW Player, the frames are completely blank (i.e. the windows background matte colour). The size is correct, and the number of frames also appears to be correct. When I open the Movie Info box, it gives the corrrect information. It's as if the movie itself is just invisible or totally transparent! Sure has me baffled! Neil

okay, let's brainstorm for a second, because if this is a bug, i know _i_ sure want it fixed. this'll only take a few minutes also. start a new session in AStudio, use Zero Key color when you create it, one frame only. Draw a green rectangle in the frame, then change the movie length to 6 and save out as QuickTime. same problem viewing it in the Quicktime viewer? next, start new session, use green 0,255,0 as key color, do the same as above and see if same problem. if either of these work properly, let me know. i don't have QuickTime 2.0.1 so this type of quick experimentation is my only option. another option though (always) is to contact folks who developed viewer and ask if they've had any abnormalities also. so far, the only real problems we've had with QuickTime have been that AStudio c0 did not support QuickTime 2.0 format (which c1 now does). several have had no problems with it. no fingerpointing here, just trying to cover all bases. -dave

Dave- I tried your tests without very encouraging results: in neither case did I succeed in displaying the mov file in the Quicktime viewer. In fact I discovered a more glaring problem: when I did a "save as", I saved all 6 frames in each case, yet when I closed the movies In Animator Studio and re-opened them, they came back, not as 6 frames, but as 2! At that point, it looked like I might have a corrupt peice of code somewhere, so I reloaded Animator Studio. The problems continue. I've given in and resorted to phoning technical support at Autodesk; they're now trying to replicate the problem. Stay tuned if you're interested in how this turns out! Neil
