Greetings,
We've been told by ADESK in open forum that the Diamond Stealth 64 PCI face
select bug will not be fixed because it would require both a revised executable
AND new Vibrant drivers. Also: there is a workaround. The failure to
highlight faces in select/face mode only appears in truecolor displays. Thus,
run your main display down to 256 colors for modelling and up to TrueColor for
rendering prep. It's a pain, but it works just fine, and it has the added
advantage of getting the better main display speed out of Studio during the
modelling phases. The easiest way to handle it is to back up both TrueColor
and 256-color mode 3DS.SET files to separate renamed files and set up a batch
file to invoke Studio with the appropriate SET file on the command line. Or
you could copy them over to 3DS.SET as required… Whichever works.

Bummer. Squared.
I guess I'll just have to stick to the work around. Thanks anyways.
