Mark, Nope…the only benefit in installing a 10MHz '010 over an 8MHz '010 is that you will spend more money. To be honest…there isn't much benefit from installing a 68010 at all. You get a minor speedup of CPU operations.. on the order of 5-10%. On the down side, you get program incompatability for certain programs. Don

Thank you, I thought so. I also asked on bix, and one of the people there said they use a CMOS 68000 in their amiga. 68HC000L10 or L12. Any comments?

Use of a CMOS 68000 Does have an advantadge — it reduces your systems power consumption by an amount that is worthwhile. Which brings me to another point about higher speed chips, 68000 and 68010 included. Often the consume extra power, even at the same clock rate. They definitly will consume more power at a higher clock rate. More heat, too. If you care — the Amiga's fine by itself, but add a couple of expansion boards, and you do get marginal conditions. –Ben–

Mark, The CMOS version will use less power than the "normal" version, but other than that…it offers no other advantage. In a machine like an A500, that can be significant. In an A1000, unless you start to add on a bunch of boards that are all powered by the Amiga, it probably won't make much difference. 1 thing to remember, and it IS important. CMOS parts are extremely static sensitive until they are plugged into the board. Even a few hundred volts of static (that you wouldn't normally even notice) can fry a CMOS chip in an instant. Make sure you use proper static handling procedures when dealing with CMOS chips of any sort. Don
