M1230XA clock

Redmond, I have discovered a small problem with my M1230XA. If I leave my A1200 off for more than three or four days (doesn't happen often, I'll admit, but it does) the clock will lose track of the time. Should I make the obvious leap of logic and assume it is the battery that is at fault? (A minor quibble on a fantastic product.) Joe A1200, 50MHz '030, 50MHz '882, 6MB RAM

Hmm. That's weird –since the battery is NOT a rechargeable battery. Hmmm. I'll ask the technicians what they think. What happens if you come back to the machine a day later or even an hour later (after powering down). Do this experiment: use the CLI and the setclock command to set the hardware clock to some arbitrary time and then do setclock load a little while later (without powering down) to see if it held the time properly while running on system power. –Redmond

Redmond, I tried this while still online. The random time/setclock save/ setclock load gag. Looks fine after a few minutes. You are right, it almost gives the impression of being a dying NiCad. Joe

Joe: Replace the lithium cell and see if that clears the problem. It is barely possible that the cell is marginal or got shorted and has enough voltage to hold the time but not enough to run the oscillator when powered down. See if that fixes it. Regards, –Redmond

Redmond, Yes, I am aware that it is a non-rechargeable Lithium cell. Part of me wants to see how long it takes to have this appear and another part doesn't (seeing that it would require four or more days to pop up). I'll try that test out and get back to you. Joe
