Christopher, It would help a lot of us who use scripts to dump the message base on CIS if you would try not to use the full **Function** prompt in your messages (note I left off the ':') This can cause our terminal to do strange things. In my case, my program stopped capturing the dump and tried to log off so I lost the rest of the messages. No real problem, but it would help it you could avoid it. Thanks. Later, Greg

Greg, What am I doing and how do I correct it?

Christopher, Sorry I didn't make myself real clear. In the message where you were describing how you downloaded the message base and showing the command you typed in at the *Function* prompt, you typed the full prompt including the ':'. Many of us use scripts with our terminal programs to automatically download the message base and logoff without our having to watch what is going on. In my case when my program encountered your message it stopped capturing the messages and tried to logoff in the middle of the dump. Just be sure that you don't type the prompt exactly as it appears on the AmigaForum and that will help eliminate any problems along this line. Either abbreviate it or leave off the colon, anything that changes it. Thanks. Later, Greg

OK, Greg, I understand now. Just like it's a no-no to try and use the colon in an execute file like vd0start, if I used the colon it'd screw up and not except the file name. That is just for the word function isn't it? Chris

Yes, Chris, just be careful not to duplicate the complete prompt. Later, Greg

Chris: It is a good idea to avoid using ':' and '/'. Try to get into the habit of thinking of the idea that you are telling the operating system something special about what you want to have happpen whenever you use one of those characters (which is actually true). 73, bill
