In case it hasn't been noticed already, the word "right" is spelled "rigth" on
the requestor you get when you go to chang justification. BTW–Why do you have
to go through all that rigamarole just to switch justification off? Why not a
simple toggle. Also, why should right justify be the default. It doesn't help
reading unless you have a VERY expensive printer because the eye is not
getting regular spacing and the brain has to work harder. I wish
people would realize this.
Now to some serious problems. I installed the STAR PoerType. oops PowerType.
I got 11zOwlz as the first thing and the printer refused to obey
margins–printing on my platten, dammit. Then I realized that there is a PM and
a WP (programming and wordprocessing mode) on the printer. So I rebooted and
set the printer to WP: that produced a GURU.
This is an early release, and I am awaiting the new release. So far, I can't
print anything. Neither the Okidata 92 not the Star PowrrType work. Please,
please, please tell me that the new release of Wordperfect allows us to print.
It is VERY frustrating to have purchased an Amiga and not a 128 primarily for
Word Perfect and find that now I have to use the 64 to get anything done.
So far, Customer Support at WP has been EXCELLENT in terms of response time
and curtesy. But that won't help if I can't print. The Okidata-92, by the
way, prints a 4 a linefeed and a 4 on ESC#1 from CLI or just a 4 if you ask it
to print something for the first time. From WP it prints a 2–maybe that will
help trace the problem. Also, the Star works fine from CLI with the Epson
JX-80 driver–if you use it in PM mode. I tried selecting that in PReferences
and using AMIGA printer with no luck.

Do you know of any printers that do work with Word Perfect?

I've had no problems printing with an Epson EX800 with WP. Other problems
I've had, but printing has been fine.

Well, I only have two. One of them, the OKI 92, does not work perfectly with
an Amiga. The other seems to, but I have not tested it extensively. Neither
works with my version of WP, but to be fair to them I should point out that
after going through the installation process with me on the phone, their
customer support said I would need the new disks and promised to send them. I
should get them soon. If it still won't print, THEN I will in a fix.
If you have WP, by all means contact customer support there–they are curteous
and helpful.

Thanks for the info. Currently I`m using Wordstar on an Epson but have
been thinking about getting Word Perfect for my Amiga. Did they tell you when
the updated disks would be available through dealers?

I was told that the disks were being printed last Monday or Tuesday. Mine
hasn't arrived yet, and I don't know when and how dealers will get it. I do
not know whether they are considering this an essential uprade or if versions
already on the shelves will be sold or recalled. You might call Word Perfect
or leave a message here for Lynn. In any case, as of this moment my advice
would have to be: WAIT. I have a lot of confidence in a company like Word
Perfect, but that is just a mental state. The only actual evidence I have is of
a program that is not quite ready. Once folks have the newest issue, you will
be able to hear about their experiences here.

The company I work for has installed WP on a couple of MS-Dos machines
(actually only one-mine), but the support from WP has been excellent. They
have had a good reputation for years. While it is always possible for a
company to 'go sour,' it is also not likely. Keep the faith, those 'mental
states' are usually worth quite an amount!

I just put WordPerfect up on my Amoeba, and it's fairly nifty! I found one
nasty, though…my Epson JX-80 is not on their list of supported printers. I
had to create a JX-80 entry and pattern it after the EX-800 (color) entry. Not
a really difficult thing to do, just a few control codes are different.
All in all, installation was a breeze, if a bit long winded. I mean, the bloody
software is on F O U R (!!!) diskettes: the main WP disk, one with the print
program, one with the speller and thesaurus, and one with tutorial stuff.
Of course, I left off the tutorial disk (they call it "LEARN"). It comes with a
nice little template for the A1000 keyboard to label the function keys, a
template that will fit over the A2000 function keys, and some peel off clear
stickers for the A1000 keypad.
I like this version of WP. After struggling through WS 2000+ and its bizarre
control files, this is nice!

Will look for the review <grin>.. Thanks for the info, am pretty sure
that I will obtain WP as I have to use it now for work. The use at work is
forcing me to take a new look at 'what you see is what you get.' While it is
possible to both see and edit the control codes, some surprises can still be in
store for you. It is really too early for me to be real critical of the
program though so I'll reserve final judgement for awhile.
