gary: how is it going. i hope all is well. down here we are still
rock'n and rooooling. gary is there a good chance of seeing 3ds3 for
NT within the next year or sometimes soon?? the reason i am asking
is to see if purchasing an AXP unit which can only run NT effeciantly
is a wise thing to do in the next year or so. thanks ara
Hi Ara, I hope things stop shaking for you soon. Re your question
about future development plans. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to
discuss any future product plans that Autodesk has, so I can't answer
your question. All I can say is that you should shop around and buy
the best, fastest value for the money. That way you can possibly get
TWO machines (Pentium's are dropping in cost these days) and use one
as a full-time rendering slave!
thanks gary: i have come to the same conclusion too. with all the
advice i got from every body in this forum(every body has been very
helpful) i have decided to get a micron p66 pci,scsi,64 megs. this
is the best bang for the buck now a days. then later on in the spring
(or if i am lucky earlier) i will get a second p66 and network the
two together and run them as you suggest. by the way i found out
what was going wrong with my galactic gas effect; after fractalizing
the sphere i needed to weld verticies, before unifing the smoothing
group of the object. now i get real nice effects. thanks for the
great trick. take care, dont work too hard(humm,i am not sure if i
really meant that, after all it might be good for you but not so good
for us 3ds fricks) but dont work to hard anyway thanks a bunch ara

Glad to hear that you got your galactic gas working… it shore is a
purty effect. PS: Very pragmatic decision re your hardware
purchase.

All these hardware decisions give me Galactic Gas! President Clinton
must have a TERRIBLE case!
Will the Micron P66 emulator necessary to run 3ds3 let it run as fast
or
faster than the 486/66 platforms? From another message from Gary I've been
trying to arrange a similar purchase to yours. Thanks, Gary

micron p60 or p66 are a true pentum pci computer. you dont need to run any
emulation mode for running 3ds3. 3ds3 will work just fine on this computer in
the dos environment. pentumes in general will run 1.8 to 2.5 times faster than
486 66 computers.
as far as buying a micron; i did a lot of studing before i decided on this
brand. they most definitly give you the most bang for your buck. and i hear
that they are very good quality computers as well.
