I realize that this might be heresy to some, but here is a CD32 add on
which I would like.
I'd like to be able to add on a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive (and whatever
else I need) so that I can load in some of my old games from my A2000.
Yes, I realize that I won't be getting 256,000 colours from my old Sim
City or my old Lemmings. On the other hand, I'll be getting to play them
conveniently (in my family room on a 50 inch screen) rather than in an
inconvenient place (in my computer room on a 12 inch screen). And I'll be
a lot more likely to play them.
Is this kind of add-on (or a hard drive) likely?

CBM has plans to use the CD32's expansion port to allow you to eventually
turn it into a fullblown Amiga computer, like the way they did with CDTV.
That includes disk drives and possibly a hard drive.

I heard that.
CBM were surpossed to be making a expansion unit so you can plug stuff like
that in. It was surpossed to have a Serial port a Parallel port and a disk
drive port. I dont know about any other ports.

There is already an expansion port out for it, it's made by Microbotics in
the US ! (of all places) and sells in the UK for 150 pounds. it's called
the SX1.

Have a look in a UK magazine, Calculus carry them and so do INDI direct
Mail (I mail ordered my CD32 from these people). Or contact Microbotics in
the US.

Lew Eggy's (don't ask me to spell his name) interview in Amazing
indicates CBM has no plans to make the CD32 into another computer. It
would compete too much with the 1200, and besides they tried making
the CDTV a do all machine and we know how far that went. CBM wants to
keep the focus of the CD32 as a game machine, with possible
multimedia and video applications. Nothing more, nothing less.
However, you never know what CBM's final plans are so this could
change in the next couple of weeks <g>. And even if CBM doesn't
create the computer add-on's, that won't stop some 3rd party company
from trying it.
Does this mean we aint getting any keyboard?.
Or can you use a PC keyboard with the same port?.

was able to sell me one. You could ask C= directly…

I've seen a CD32 in a shop being used with an A4000 keyboard.
There is a mail order company in England taking orders for an expansion
card that allows you to add floppy drives and memory, and has a printer
port.
Yeah I know you can use a A4000 keyboard. But can you get a replacement
keyboard for a A4000 so you can use it on the CD32?.
I havent decided which to get first the FMV card or the Expansion port thing?.

There are shops selling CD32 Keyboards now, Indi are charging 45.99
English pounds. One shop suggested trying Commodore's spare parts
department to buy a 4000 keyboard.
I'm definitly going for the Expansion card because I intend to try and
link the CD32 to my A500+ with Parnet. If this works I should be able to
read CD Roms like the Fish CDs on the A500+, and run AGA software like
DPaint IV on the CD32 from the A500+ hard disc. I'll see if video CDs take
off in this country, if they do I might eventually have to buy another
CD32, but not for some time yet.

What is it gold plated!!!!….You can get PC keyboards for about 20 Quid.
I think I will phone up commodore and see if I can buy one from them.
I will probally go for the expansion thing first too. (I have been told it is
called the SXI) Cause I want to play all of the old Amiga games on my CD32. I
bought the Demo II CD at the weekend and it has got a lot of really good stuff
on it. But some of it you need a keyboard. It it definelty worth the money
though.
Have you heard that MicroCosm is surpossed to come out on Thursday?.

I've got Demo II as well. It is certainly worth it for the stuff you can
run on a CD32, and if you can get hold of the expansion board and keyboard
you should be able to use almost all of it. That ought to keep me busy for
a while.
I hadn't heard that Microcosm was coming out, I'll have to check the shops
this weekend. Do you know if they intend to release Jurrassic Park on
CD32? I heard it was ready last year but there were licencing problems.

You can actually buy a Keyboard and a Floppy drive as seperates for the
CD32 (other than buying as the whole expansion module).
