What, we agree??!! I must have died and gone to heaen! Oh, by the way. Just saw your quote in the MacWeek article on the Altsys program that converts Type 1 fonts to editable PostScript letterforms. Did you, or did you not, when I suggested that PostScript type foundries needed to remove encryption from the fonts tell me that I was expecting too much for type foundries and type designers to allow anyone to monkey with their glyphs? That it was somehow morally wrong to do so? (you don't think I'd let you off so easy, did you? <grin>) P.S.: The above is not meant to start an argument — I'm glad you're as excited by the news as I am.

The trouble with playing devil's advocate all the time (and not using Nav's handy archiving feature) is that I don't really know what I might have said. Was it a weekend? I'm more likely to be provocative on the weekends. At any rate, a lot of changes have been announced since anytime I might have made such a statement. To be slightly serious, I don't much like type mangling. As you keep pointing out, most art directors don't even understand how to set type; don't you think they're really over-reaching when they decide to condense or oblique it with their little computers? Metamorphosis looks like an interesting and useful tool; like most power tools, it can cause serious damage. Nyah, nyah, nyah na na!
