#WORKBENCH 1.3.2 UPDATE
9 messages in this thread
Was AMax working off a bug in the OS or was the change Commodore's
fault? By the way, there is one very nice thing here that might not be
noticed: the fact that Readysoft already has a new version shows that
commodore kept in touch with them about 1.3.2.
readysoft was not doing "The Right THing" and got burned when C= fixed a
hole in the OS
Somehow I didn't think AMax would be one of those pieces of software
that didn't break any rules!
Does anyone know the most recent version of AMax? When I bought mine, I
got a "readme" that said version 1.0. Then I called ReadySoft, and they
said version 2.0 was the most recent. A week or so later, their update
came – and it still said version 1.0. Am I missing something? Also, how
can I adjust the horizontal placement of the Mac screen? I have a
FlickerFixer, and the Mac screen is almost to the right edge of the screen.
And why aren't my Control Panel changes saved? I like the mouse speed to
be nice and fast, but I've got to reset them every time.
YOU HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I DO! I thought I was the imbecile! I can't save
my mouse speed either, and it is dreadfully slow! What Readysoft told me
with their first update was that the version number would not change, not
even by .1. Basically, if it didn't work you needed the newer version. Mine
is 1.0. I don't know about the screen orientation.
I just asked readysoft about the mouse speed issue. They said it is saved
to battery-backed memory on the Mac which we don't have. He said that in
Mac PD there is a way to save to disk, but he left no details.
So is there any way to determine which version you have? Like by file
size, or date? That's really goofy that they have such a great update
policy, coupled with a refusal to increment the version number for bug
fixes? Mine works. Why would they spend money to send me something I
didn't need?
Readysoft asked me not to use the setpatch rather than upgrade, so they
must be realizing how great, and expensive, their upgrade policy is. Call
them and ask. The original version would lock up if you tried to print in
LQ Imagewriter mode. Also, it would not format a disk in a drive 3 or 4 to
800K, only to 400K. Then there was a second version. I think that this
version to support 1.3.2 is the third.
Every version of Amax so far seems to be 1.0 :). Here is the bugs the
9/25/89 version are supposed to swat.
Bug List for A-Max 25-Sep-89 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ These have all
been fixed in the current version of the software. Return your disks for
recopy if you have any of the following problems.
– HyperCard didn't work on A500/A2000. – Disks in external Mac or Amiga
drives would only format to 400K. – Disks would not format properly under
MultiFinder. – Problem with new setpatch (34.25) … says 'please wait
while installing' and stops there. – Parallel port printing could crash Mac
system. – Problems with Full- and Mini Disk Transfer.
Macs have a small battery maintained memory. Control Panel Settings like
mouse speed are saved in parameter ram. A normal amiga don't have the same
unless you hack one up in your amiga.
