PageStream 2.0 CG fonts

Just received PageStream 2.0 in mail. The Compugraphic fonts that come
with it look very good. Problem: I have the ProPage CG fonts (the
separate package) but cannot get PS2.0 to access them. Per page 1.6 in the
manual they should work. (the font req shows them, and the size is
properly set, but when I type nothing happens)
I think I have set up the FONTS: default path correct, and have loaded them
in via the 'manager' but still zilch. Any suggestions from those
successful?
Finally, are PostScript fonts generally available PD? Where would one
look?
(last: a gripe: why still no Professional Draw CLIP support?? dang!)

John, I have gotten PgS 2.0 to use the PP extra cost fonts, so the manual
is correct. The fonts "path" points to only the first "main" PgS font
directory. each separate CG font (directory) must be "ADD"ed with the font
manager. But then you said you did that? I entered the manager through the
set paths requestor (that's new to 2.0) and then exited the set paths
requestor by hitting the "default" button. Maybe that made a difference?
BTW the CG fonts are great to look at on the screen – but BOY are they
slow!! On my 030 2500 the slow down is a minor inconvenience, but on a
stock 2000 they are a major exercise in patience!! To all who don't have an
accelerated Amiga I would suggest you use PgS fonts for the initial design
then switch to the CG fonts when you are almost ready to print. You can
also run PgS along with vscreen. That way you can scroll around the entire
page without it having to be redrawn.
Check over in the IBM forums for PD postscript fonts I think I have seen a
few over there. There is a program on SL's BBS to convert MAC PSfonts into
the IBM format that PgS supports. PD MAC fonts seem to be much more
plentiful so I'll see if I can upload that program here.
The programmers over at SL have stated that they are not willing to
"reverse engineer" the Gold Disk's clip file format. I don't blame them.
But I have seen messages posted that if anyone else would like to do that
and provide them with a well documented file format, that they would try to
whip up an import module.
On the plus side did you know that PgS 2.0 WILL import IBM EPS files with
TIFF bitmaps, display the image on screen, and print the TIFF image to non
PS printers! Now I have not been able to try this yet, but I'm off to the
IBM forums to see if I can grab one to give it a try! -Paul-
Well at least you guys have managed to get 2.0 up and running. I have spent
the past three days trying to get it to print with no success. I have tried
using the Epson 24 pin driver and when I try to print, all it does is
advance my paper.
Anyone have any ideas as to whats wrong?? I have used the default settings
and have tried using what the manuel suggest but still not luck.

Sorry but I have an HP Deskjet so I can't try out the Epson driver for you.
If you are running off of a harddisk make sure there is NOTHING left
(except your fonts and documents) of the 1.8 system. The 1.8 drivers will
NOT work with 2.0. If this is already the case then I don't know.
Does anyone else out there have 2.0 and an Epson printer?

least 'know' it works I'm plenty game for more time experiementing. 🙂
You are right about the slow down. I am also running an 030, so it is not
very noticable. (but admittedly no slower than PPage or other IBM type
DPers…)
That's a shame about the need to reverse the PDraw 'clip' files. I suppose
I was naive to figure that Gold Disk would make their format generally
available, so that they would be supported. I understand SL's reluctance
to work with them if that is Gold Disk's attitude. What a pain!

John, I just checked out the MACDESIGN forum and found quite a few MAC PS
type 1 fonts. I've uploaded a program to convert these to IBM format PS
type 1 fonts that PageStream can use. But I have not yet been able to try
it. The only "unstuffing" program I have "UNSIT" splits the mac stuffit
files into two files (data & resource) when it decompresses. The MAC>IBM
converter seems to want an original unsplit file to work. Anyone out there
with both a MAC and a AMI like to give this a try? -Paul-
