#Entering new areas

Hi! I'm trying to make sense out of what Whap! 1.9b does when going into
a new Forum. It seems to send the command HI;L almost randomly — first
when logging into the Forum for the very first time, then when leaving it.
(For those that don't know, the command resets the "high message read"
counter to the highest message number, and makes CIS respond as if you had
read every message in that Forum to date!)
This also was done with the reinitialization of Arts and Tech — Whap!
reset the counter to the last message in those Fora as well, both upon
entering and right before exiting. I'm sure there's some kinda reason
behind it — but for the life of me I can't figure out the logic behind it.
It's only natural to want to see what messages are already IN a Forum when
you join one! Or do I somehow have something set wrong?

Whap! issues a "HI;L" command for me on entry into a new forum too.
Whenever I want to see what was available before I joined, I go back in
under terminal mode and reset the high message number to 1 before the first
available message number for each new forum (i.e. for the new AmigaFora I
used "HI;0"), log off of CompuServe, and select "Get New Messages" from the
Whap! menu. I just read all of the messages on all four AmigaFora that way.

I just tried something else (without resorting to reading the manual :),
and may have found out what we're supposed to do to read the messages: When
you define a new forum in Whap! by double-clicking on an empty box and
entering the forum name, you should also click on the All box and either
the QSN (Quick Scan New) or the RTN (Read Thread New) box to have Whap!
read the messages (or message headers) before issuing the "HI;L" command.

Actually the way Whap! handles joining forums makes a great deal of sense.
What you have been talking about is joining a "NEW" forum (where the forum
is new). Try joining the WordPerfect Support Group Forum A and trying to
read the entire message base. If you really want to read everything when
you join a forum, I think that you can just select ALL from the forum set
up screen before you join.
