#TSilver User Group?
13 messages in this thread
I recently heard about a Turbo Silver User's Group. Has anyone here heard
about it, and could tell me more about it?
There is one in Santa Monica, CA. Called TurboSig. I get their regular
newsletter, but haven't attended any. They meet monthly, have data disks
,tutorials, etc…. I'm at work so don't have the address handy, but if
someone else hasn't posted by this eve I will post the info for you…
(would anyone be interested in an advanced Silver/Imagine user group via
nationwide mail/disks/etc? Conferences on CS? any interest, as I would
be….) –jp–
If you've got a phone number for them, I'd appreciate it. Meanwhile, I'll
write them a letter. Sure, why not formalize the Silver users here into a
group that meets on a regular basis?

John, here is info on the Silver Sig:

Victor is in charge of it. They meet regularly at the Westside Pavilion,
right near the Santa Monica Freeway and the San Diego Freeway (right in
your backyard, right?) 🙂
Last newsletter (4 pages) had info on lighting (ok), letters, info on user
group disks available (2 disks with misc objects), Shortcuts and Tips,
etc… Depth of the articles could be much better, but since I have not
contributed yet I cannot complain. (kick me in the pants; I'll do an
article in the next mo or so – promise to myself)
As I recall the membership was in the $15-$20 range, annually.
——————————I'd be willing to do some organizational work
on a CS Silver user forum, but don't know what the interest level would be?
Does Rick know if anyone else has suggested it, and what the response was?
–PS. Interchange keeps knocking me over. I have successfully used its
various modules to convert some of the Vista landscapes into a file that
can be loaded into the 'soon-to-be-released' Genesis program
(MicroIllusions). Without Interchange I would have been duck soup.
Thanks… –jp–
I would be extremely interested in a Turbo User's Group here on CIS.
Couldn't you do it as a section in Amiga Arts with regular conferences?
John, I'd be very interested in a User Group on CIS for Turbo and
Impulse when it comes out.

What's "Genesis"?
Steve
'Genesis' is a 'RSN' program from MicroIllusions, that creates fractal
landscapes, including lakes and rivers. Allows setting of more parameters
than most people will EVER want (but the defaults are good), and FULL
control (via REXX and an internal scripting language) of nearly all of the
animation parameters (what I call them anyway), such as observer view,
target, sun position/angle, color, sea level, fractal parameters, river
meandering, vertical scaling, camera settings, contour levels, more….
Supports all resolutions (although HAM is only a conversion of 32 color
screens for now)…. no does not support 24bit color (yet) 🙁 Will work
in 32color lo-res, 16color hi-res, solid color (dithered) and wireframe
(including HL), with interlace and overscan of course.
Should be out in next two months (REALLY, I am told). The fractal
landscape wars are heating up! (each has its place, I hope they all sell a
million) –jp–
Do you know if this program is or will be capable of ouputting object files
for Silver/Sculpt or..? That would be fantastic! Scott
GENESIS, you are talking about, right? Well, it will export to Silver and
to Sculpt and to Videoscape. (grin) The Silver export is fantastic. It
creates a seperate object for each terrain level (the various terrain
colors), for cliffs, for the sea, for lakes and rivers…. so that you can
later (in Silver) go in and individually tweak those items in color
texture, etc without disturbing the other parts of the landscape. (can you
imagine doing FACE SELECT on a 1000 faces – aaarrg!)
Frankly, the GENESIS output (rendering) is so good that I would rarely take
it into other programs, but it is nice to have the flexibility! I'll see
if I'm allowed to upload pics here.
Look for it in 1-2 months, I am told. –jp–
I'd be interested in a CS Silver/Imagine user group.
Yes! A usergroup that had data disks (with picture _and_ object files)
would be a big help!
