Hmm. Speaking as a regular user of DOS… How about the presence of
software? There's 30 million or so PCs out there, and that means a big
market to attract developers. There's only about six programs I've ever
bought for my PC, mostly programmer's tools. But in this arena, I have
choices, where in the Amiga world, there are no offerings in some
catagories. For example, C code reformatters. I'm often forced to move
code back and forth between the PC and the Amiga, to reformat it.
I'd say Windows 3.0 is a virtue of DOS, too – or at least DOS machines.
It's ahead of the Amiga in many respects, even though some aspects of it
appall me, from an enlightened Amiga perspective.

As a designer of embedded systems I've noticed that there is NOTHING
available for the Amiga in the way of cross compilers, version control
systems, etc. Besides the lack of standard networking (TCP/IP, NFS, etc.),
this was one of the major problems I had pushing the Amiga here at work.
At this point I probably won't miss my Amiga too much… we've managed to
convince some people that we need some nice high power workstations. 13 hours
to do a full software rebuild on the IncrediblyBadMachines was just TOO long
<grin>.

The amiga *does* have TCP/IP networking, as well as Novell.
