I have a problem with the real time clock on my A2000 rev 6.2B that I am hoping someone will be able to give me some guidance on: The clock seems to work…that is, when I boot my system the correct time is loaded into workbench. The problem is that it is then not updated. If I, for instance, open up the software clock in workbench, the time that is shown is the time that I booted the system. The clock just sits there, unmoving, displaying that time. The second hand is still. Another example are the timers in Whap! They don't update. The 'time on system' display is always 00:00. Quickbill always reads $1.50, no matter how many hours I have spent online to CIS. Another example is a little program I have called 'National Debt', which is supposed to display the national debt, and update it every few seconds to reflect the growing amount of deficit. It doesn't update. It just sits there… Well, you get the picture! Anyone care to comment? Any advice would be appreciated. Nick Moore

Nick, You've lost the "tick" line into one of the 8520's…or you've lost the 8520 itself (most likely occurance). The 8520 would be labeled U300, I suspect you may also find you have problems with your parallel port and/or your internal floppy. The tick line is supplied by one of two places…by default, it comes from the power supply, but by changing jumper J300, that signal can be obtained from the vertical frame rate. Have your dealer's tech take a look at it, unless you know what you're doing…I wouldn't suggest you attempt swapping the 8520 yourself. They are VERY sensitive to static. Don

Thanks, Don, for the information on the demise of my A2000's 8520. Haven't noticed any problems with the parallel port or internal floppy yet. Its interesting you should mention jumper J300. When I first swapped motherboards I found I couldn't keep my Supergen online on my system because it would cause the normal RGB display on my monitor to jitter…especially text on the workbench screen. Someone told me that C= had shipped some of the newer boards with the jumper J300 set wrong, with pins 3 and 4 jumped instead of 1 and 2. I checked, but mine was set correctly. Maybe I zapped one of the 8520's while checking this. thanks for your help…just wish it wasn't a 90 mile round trip to the nearest dealer! Nick Moore

Nick, two possible causes there… first is that one of the timers on the 8520 chip is dead. Or, the power supply, which provides one of the system timing ticks is gone. Either way it's a hardware problem that means a visit to your dealer. Khalid.

Nick; Since you know where the jumper is located and how to check it……. The power supply tick signal is a little touchier than the vertical retrace signal…. so, you might want to swap the jumper and see if the clock works. My ami 2000 has been running on the vertical sync signal since shortly after I got the machine (the power supply tick was bad). I don't use a genlock so can't say how that would affect the use of one. Also, the jumper is three pins, not four. 73, bill
