Mike, We've been using DPaint III under 2.0 and haven't noticed anything particularly unusual….execpt that animations done with it won't load with DPaint III under 1.3 (says something about can't load page larger than screen). What problems are my kids and I missing?? Victor A. Wagner, Jr.

EA has acknowledged that fills are broken under 2.0. Basically, doing a fill on any object more complex than a box has about a 25% chance of just hanging – the "I'm busy" pointer stays up forever, and the fill never completes. Apparently there's a missing WaitBlt in their code which didn't make a difference in 1.3 but because 2.0 is faster it does break there. -Mike

Mike & Vic – Just stepping in here. A customer told me the other day that he talked to EA and they told him that an upgrade (or Fixed version) for 2.0 might not be available for over a year or so! So if Dpaint_III has problems with the A3000 and/or 2.0 then it might be awhile til it gets fixed. This is to bad – cause Dpaint_III is certianly a "First Buy" for all these new A3000/Amiga owners. Yous guys know how long it took EA to 'Fix' DPrint_II after it was released (just after wb1.3) and found to not work with the new 1.3 printer drivers. It took them almost a year to ship a new version to that one. We all know the Problems w/ EA !#*? – Roy Pahnke – Crazy Mountain Software Casper, Wyomin' – 1-800-76 AMIGA

Hmm, I've heard rumors of a 'Dpaint IV', and I could definitely see that being a year away. But I sure hope they don't wait a year to fix the 2.0 problem – if they do I'll be forced to find some alternative to DPIII in the near future i.e. when 2.0 goes into ROM and it'll be tougher to switch from 2.0<->1.3. -Mike

Ah, thanks. I'll warn the kids. I presume someone will notifiy us when/if EA has an upgrade. Victor A. Wagner, Jr.

I can imagine a tiny C or assembly program that returns a random error return value… then you could branch on that value, in the startup-sequence, and choose between a fixed number of files. Otherwise, it sounds like a cute hack of a utility for someone to write… examine all available files in a given subdirectory, then play one.
