Hello, I just recently bought a HST USRopotics 14.4k modem for my amiga 500. I have been able to connect with BBS all over, but unable to connect with CompuServe. I have the modem calling at 2400 baud 8N1 and even tried 1200 baud at a 2400 baud number. When I connect with the access network, I am able to connect, but I get nothing on the screen but garbage of all kinds. Can Anyone help meout with this? I think I have my settings correct. If anyone can help, please do! Jack

Jack, Try it at 7 E 1, that should work. Don

Great! What a simple Solution!!! I sure hope it works!! I dial CIS with my Gs at 8N1 so I thought the amiga would work at that… Will give it a shot…Thanks for the help. Jack

Jack – Check your "&" settings carefully. There's one that tells it to either lock the baud rate to what you set it at (probably 19200 for calling HST BBSes), or to change on connect to whatever the baud rate on the other end is. If the baud rates don't match, what comes through might look like garbage. Your term program is probably smart enough to change its baud rate to what you told it to dial at, but the modem may still be trying to send at the higher rate. Harry

Jack, using your communications software, do an ATI4 and see if your using &N0. If your using &N1 – &N6, you have locked the modem at a set speed. I tend to put the rate I want to use in my modem initialization string, but &N0 should give you the most flexibility. Brian J. Bartlett
