#topos

Thanks for the reply. Could you tell me about how and what it can turn into
topos? For instance, I have a lot of contour maps that need to be modeled, can
it do this? What about walls, like around interstates? Any general info would
be appreciated. Thanks again.

Then you are in good shape. It'll take contours and turn them into TIN
(triangulated integetrated networks …. a fancy name for an efficent mesh
<g>).

Does that too!

I'm just starting to look for ways to get topography above and
beneath Manhattan. What is this Topos, and do you know of sources for
the data?
Andy,
>> What is this Topos<<
We are talking about a program by Schrieber Instruments called
QuickSurf .. which runs inside of ACAD. It will take many input
formats and create meshes (TIN's). They sell a CD-ROM of geo-data
and there are others who specialize in much more detailed info (such
as Manhattan).
Angelo,
Can you point me in the general direction of some of the other sources that I
can contact to get some real detailed Manhattan topographic (and
sub-topographic) data for 3DS3?

There is a company called American Digital Cartography .. (414) 733-6678 that
sells data which is compatible with QuickSurf. Also, the USGS (US Geological
Survey) sells the information directly .. at very reasonable prices. If you
call them .. they will send you a map showing all the sections of the US that
they have data for. They are also offering satelite images as well. The
down-side is that they always deliver on 9-track tape. There are plenty of
conversion services around though (just look in the back of PC Mag).
Hope that helps!

Great, I will definately give it a try.
