AMAX & 6.0.5 Problem?
5 messages in this thread
I'm beginning to believe that AMAX has a problem with level 6.0.5 of the
mac software. I've tried a couple of different disks and they all fail the
same way. (Half way thru the boot, the screen starts flashing and the
computer locks) Has anyone else had this happen? If so, do you know if
ReadySoft has a fix for either AMAX I or II? Les Clark
I know that 6.0.3 works fine – why are running 6.0.5? I thought that was
an update for the Mac II series. It's not uncommon for Apple to recommend
earlier revisions of the operating system for older machines – such as the
Mac SE that Amax resembles.

Tried to run 6.0.5 for a couple of reasons. One is that a piece of
software that I would like to use requires 6.0.5. The other is that 6.0.5
is the only "official" version of the mac software that I have been able to
get. (I prefer to work with legal copies of software.) Although it does
appear that 6.0.5 is where support for some of the newer macII machines
came in, the Apple doc says that 6.0.5 should work on a mac+. (And I
thought that AMAX emulated a mac+.)
Oh well, maybe I'll wait until I get the AMAX II upgrade and try it with
6.0.5… (Hopefully, it will be soon. I got the bill for the charge on my
credit card yesterday. (Isn't it funny how most companies can bill faster
than they can ship?))
I was able to order 6.0.3 when I bought my AMax. I suspect you could
special-order it, too. Meanwhile, have you called the AMax people about
this? I'm looking forward to using a SCSI CD-ROM drive under the Mac
emulator, for example, and that might require something better than 6.0.3,
too.
When I talked to ReadySoft, they said that AMAS (I don't know about AMAX
II) will not work with 6.0.5. I'm using it with 6.0.4 and am not having
any problems (Actually, that seemed to surprise ReadySoft, they hadn't
tried that version.)

BTW – With Mac+ ROMs, AMAX looks like a 512KE.
